CHRISTMAS PARTY TO BE HELD TONIGHT

As the first year of Palomar College pauses for the Christmas Holidays, it affords me a great deal of pleasure to think back over the past months. It soe.~;.s to me that Palomar College has been well begun and that its institutions and traditions ~re developing so well that future generations of students will view with admiration the work of the class that entered in 1946. I want to wish all of the members of the Student Body a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

In keeping with the Christmas spirit, Palomar College tonight will hold its first Christmas Party.

Scheduled to start at 8:30, the -party will feature the music of Al ChRndler 1 s Palomar Star-Gazers. In addition to the dancing, the singing of Christmas carols under the direction of Mr. Julian will highlight the affair.

Entertainment and games will be provided for those who don't wish to dance.

The ~ver-important refreshments are to consist of hot chocolate and cookies.

I wish to extend holiday greetings to the Student Body ~s Palomar's first Christmas vacation approaches. It seems appropriate at this time to make some mention of the excellent cooperation shown by the Student Body in all matters in which they have participated.

Discussions with both faculty and with students have shown such seriousness of purpo se and application to their studies as to warrant t hem ~ well earned holiday.

Tickets are on sale from members of the council or they may be purchased at the door. The price is 60¢, tax included So get into the Christmas spirit and come out to Palomar's first Christmas party, tonight in the high school gym.

There will be a visit from Santa Claus sometime during the evening; please bring a 25¢ present to help fill Santa's sack.

Since last September certain memb~Jl'S of the Craative Writing Class, Mr. Julien's literary lights, have been interested in publishing a school paper. Encouraged by being charter members of Palomar College end full of the ambition of youth, we decided that rather than put out a .mimeograpr..ed paper such as you are now reading, we would go a little slower and publish a regular tabloid.

Every year, millions of children write to old Saint Nick tolling him what they WOQ1d like to receive for Christmas. As examples of this, I should like to have you read the following two letters to Santa. The first is from the son of a Wall Street magnate and the second from an Arkansas farm boy.

Perhaps this would be an opportune moment to discuss some of the different customs relative to Christmas in various lands, tn Scotland, for example, the father often shoots a gun outside the house on Christmas Eve. Following this, he enters the house and announces to his children that Santa Claus has just committed suicide.

In Holland, small children put their shoes on the window sill for Santa to fill. This custom was brought to America in the last century, but died a natural death in the Ozarks.

Comedians also have a field day with Christmas. Every year we hear about the man who went to the zoo to b~ some Christmas seals.

And don 1 t forget that Yuletide is when every girl wants her past forgotten and her present remembered.

It 1 s no wonder people call it "Happy New Year", for them it 1 s 358 days until the ~xt Christmas. w.s.
