FLORIST FEATURE TEHACHAPI FLOWER SHOP

Sara Frost’s journey to the floral industry started with a fluke. She was working in customer service helping with coupon disputes at her local Hy-Vee when she decided she needed a change. With no experience or training, she asked the floral department if they had any openings and luckily, they did. Sara began creating arrangements in 2010, getting training and tips from her manager as she learned on the job, where she flourished into an amazing designer.

When the Frost family moved to Tehachapi in 2018, Sara went to the local flower shop to see if they needed any help. She was told she could start out as seasonal and eventually got the call to come in. After proving her skill, she became full-time at Tehachapi Flower Shop. A few years later, during Mother’s Day, Sara was asked if she would like to buy the shop.

Being a cautious person, Sara mulled over the decision extensively and ultimately decided to go for it after getting encouragement and support from her husband of 16 years, Chris. Her initial goal was to remain open for four years, and she is now heading into her third year of ownership with no stopping in sight.

In addition to rallying behind each other, the Tehachapi community has also supported Sara and Chris in their floral endeavor. As a local business owner, Sara has been a guest on the town’s podcast and YouTube channel with plans to return. She is also one of the sponsors for the town rodeo, and she can be found supporting the high school yearbook as well as church events. If her love for her community wasn’t already apparent, she has also begun working with some local growers to source flowers, such as sunflowers, for her shop!

Owning a business has come with challenges, one of the biggest being time management. “This business can be 24/7 if a huge order rolls in, so one of the biggest challenges has been maintaining a good work life balance, especially being a mother of three.” Luckily Sara has always been able to make it work, though it takes some navigating.

Being a business owner and a mother is not only a great source of pride for Sara, but for her children as well. Her kids Caiden (age 15), Brielle (age 13), and Lindee Ann (age 8) love bragging that their mom owns a business in town and love to help her in the shop as well! You can find her son helping grid containers while her youngest is running around the shop picking up scraps for her own bouquets.

I love watching her create. She'll come up to me and say how much do you think I could charge for this?

Being a mother herself, Sara makes sure to go the extra mile when it comes to creating arrangements for Mother’s Day. She appreciates that her customers are trusting her with something emotional and sentimental and she wants every bouquet to look like it has been made with love.

This Mother’s Day, Teleflora will opt in florists for deliveries on Sunday, May 12th, by routing orders from headquarters to your shop. If you do not plan to be open for deliveries, please keep an eye out for the Dove message detailing opt-out instructions.

If you designated that your eFlorist website was open for deliveries on Mother’s Day Sunday last year, we will automatically update your eFlorist site to allow Sunday orders this Mother’s Day, May 12th. If that is not the case for your shop, we ask that you adjust your site settings to allow orders for delivery on May 12th.
