“IDENTIFICATION AND SPECTRAL SIGNATURE ANALYSIS OF LAND USE CLASSES IN BHARUCH - ANKLESHWAR USING OPTICAL REMOTE SENSING DATA” Tej D. Chavda “PG-Faculty of technology, CEPT University, Ahmedabad-9 Gujarat, India Tej.pg191052@cept.ac.in Abstract: Bharuch and Ankleshwar are called as twin cities in Gujarat. This paper focuses on identifying various land use classes and justification is done using image interpretation of data obtain from LISS-3 (23.5meter spatial resolution). The paper also explains about the single spectral profile with reflectance value and common histogram plots for all features in different bands for the city. Remote sensing techniques plays a major role in urban and rural development and the determination of natural resources, thus helping us generate statistical data to analyze the changing patterns of our environment and respond effectively with an approach to sustainable development. To study this data knowledge of spectral reflectance of different land use is required. Keyword: Spectral profile, Common Mean Digital Numbers value and Histogram. 1. INTRODUCTION

The better land use alternatives could be executed in various land units through visual interpretation techniques. This paper goes around two major words interpretation and spectral signature analysis. Remote sensing is the science of acquiring information about the Earth's surface without actually being in contact with it. The images obtained from LISS 3 are the FCC Images through the features are identified. This is done by sensing and recording reflected or emitted energy and processing, analysing, and applying that information. Identification, discrimination and classification of earth surface features using remotely sensed data are based on the basic premise that different objects have unique reflectance/emittance properties in different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. Signatures are statistical in nature with a certain mean value and some dispersion around it 2. AREA PROFILE

Bindi P. Shastri Faculty of Technology, CEPT University, Ahmedabad-9, Gujarat, India bindi.dave@cept.ac.in ground water level in this locale is above 10m from the main sea level. The main soil type in the region is alluvial soil. The safeguard soil of this area is exceptionally ripe. The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded 45c and 14c respectively. May is the most blazing month with high mean daily maximum temperature. January is the coldest month with mean daily minimum temperature. The precipitation in the area is received mainly during the southwest season from June to September. The average annual precipitation of the area is around 788mm. Bharuch is the oldest city in Gujarat formerly called as broach and also second oldest city of India having continuous initiations, first being Banaras (Varanasi). Bharuch has as known history for about 8000 years. The city of Bharuch and its surrounds has been settled far back into antiquity and was a major shipping building center and sea port in important pre-compass coastal trading routes to points West, perhaps as far back as the days of the Pharaohs, which utilized the regular and predictable Monsoon winds or galleys. Bharuch and Ankleshwar cities are enriched with industrial establishments like GIDC, GNFC. There are more green fields projects either implemented or under pipeline and are going to be most important factor for economic development as well as planning process of the region. This region had biggest liquid cargo terminal in Gujarat and also called as chemical capital of India.

Bharuch and Ankleshwar lies in the western parts of Gujarat promontory. The topology is relatively plain and the fluctuates as we move far from the Narmada river. The geology formation of the territory is due to the residue stored by river Narmada. Profundity of Figure 1 Land use map
