04 DISSERTATION Streetscape socially connecting smart city Keywords: User friendly, context, built environment, performance Streets are multifaceted public spaces where people lives fold and unfold and not just conduit for traffic. A street should actively support walking which would not only facilitate better transportation but also contribute safety, social, economic benefits in the long run. Streets are the lifeblood of our communities and the foundation of our urban economies. They make up more than 80 percent of all public space in cities and have the potential to foster business activity, serve as a front yard for residents, and provide a safe place for people to get around, whether on foot, by bicycle, car, or transit. The vitality of urban life demands a design approach sensitive to the multifaceted role streets play in our cities Many roads are built with only motor vehicles in mind, need to compromise on its pedestrian and cyclist and should provide adequate infrastructure which enable social interaction. Best street design also adds to the value of businesses, offices, and schools located along the roadway. Street space can also be reused for different purposes, such as parklets, bike share, and traffic calming.

05 ETHNOGRAPHY The descriptive study that I have done of particular human society is Amadalli, Karnataka, India, in order to gain a holistic understanding of a social or cultural group with the aim of conception and designing Slum Re-habitat 6th sem design.

It also holds my personal interest of sketching and photography analysis, video documentation and interacting with society and getting the unique interpretation about the particular habitat.

The Halakki-Vokkalu are an indigenous tribe of Karnataka, They are found predominantly in Uttara Kannada district and are distinct from Vokkaligas. Halakki Vokkaligas living in the foot of Western Ghats are known as the “ A borig i na ls nada”. Their of Uttara Kanway of living is still ancient.

The women adorn themselves with beads and necklaces, heavy nose rings and distinctive attire. Halakki speak a different dialect of Kannada called as Halakki Kannada
