The Baton Rouge Battle
The Super Regional in Baton Rouge was a formidable challenge for the Mountaineers. In Game 1, West Virginia battled hard but ultimately lost 16-9 to a powerful LSU offense that hit two grand slams. The Mountaineers showed flashes of their own offensive capabilities, but couldn't keep pace with the Tigers' relentless scoring.
Game 2 saw the Mountaineers fight to extend the series. They narrowed an early 6-0 deficit to 64 by the fifth inning, with home runs from Sam White and Ben Lumsden, and an RBI single from White However, a crucial six-run seventh inning for LSU, aided by three West Virginia errors, sealed the 12-5 victory for the Tigers and punched their ticket to Omaha.
