the Toledo Walleye 4-1 at Colisée Vidéotron in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, sparking jubilant celebrations for their dedicated fanbase. This remarkable victory culminates a season of exceptional performance, especially considering the team finished fifth in the ECHL regular season standings, proving that resilience and teamwork truly lead to triumph.
A Historic Playoff Run
The Lions' journey to the Kelly Cup was nothing short of spectacular. After a strong regular season where they captured the North Division title with 98 points, Trois-Rivières demonstrated their playoff prowess by first sweeping the Reading Royals. They then overcame the Norfolk Admirals in six games before staging a momentous upset in the Eastern Conference Final, dethroning the three-time defending Kelly Cup champion Florida Everblades.
In the final series against the Toledo Walleye, the Lions, fueled by the stellar goaltending of Luke Cavallin (who earned the June M. Kelly Playoffs MVP award for his outstanding 1.53 GAA and .948 save percentage), took control after dropping Game 1. They won the next four consecutive games, culminating in a decisive 4-1 victory in Game 5 at home. This championship marks a significant milestone for the franchise, becoming only the second Canadian team to lift the Kelly Cup.
