“It was such a pleasure to create a bespoke tuxedo for Abel Tesfaye for this year’s Cannes Film Festival,” Jonathan Anderson, creative director at Loewe, told Vogue. “I’ve long been a fan of this unique and trailblazing polymath a singer, composer, producer and now actor, whose influences range wide and deep. I’m truly honored he chose to wear Loewe for his Cannes debut.” The outfit proved to be perfect for an undoubtedly meaningful juncture in Tesfaye’s career. After screening two episodes for an audience full of critics and Hollywood heavyweights, The Idol received a five minute long standing ovation. Euphoria mastermind Sam Levinson, who serves as creator, writer, and director on the show, thanked the audience. “Abel and I thank our lucky stars,” he said.
Lily Rose Depp joined her co stars from the new HBO series, The Idol, for her red carpet moment at Cannes Film Festival. On the Croisette, she wore a sequined Chanel minidress adorned with a flower at its centre. It was either a vintage piece worn by supermodel Christy Turlington on Chanel’s fall 1994 runway, or a custom homage to the original. The actor wore the look as it was seen at the show styled with sheer opera gloves and gossamer thin tights. However, she didn’t wear the floral headdress worn by Turlington, and instead wore her hair in a low bun, with loose tendrils that framed her face. The stars are making a habit of recreating major ’90s supermodel moments right now there were several epic runway throwbacks on the red carpet at this year’s Met Gala.
The minidress is the latest of many Chanel looks that Lily Rose has worn on the red carpet over the years. From the gothic lace gown she wore to the BAFTAs in 2020, to the lilac couture look she wore at Venice Film Festival in 2019, Depp frequently turns to the maison for major occasions. Like her mother Vanessa Paradis before her, the 23 year old has become a house muse. It’s also not the first time that Lily Rose has worn a Chanel look previously modeled by Christy on the runway at the Met Gala in 2019, she
graced the steps in an unforgettable chain embellished gown from spring 1992 (it was also seen on Penélope Cruz in Pedro Almodóvar’s Broken Embraces). Clearly she takes her duties as a house ambassador seriously.
