As a full-time undergraduate student, you have one window to apply based on your major:

End of 1st year: ACC, FIN, BTM, ENT, HTM & RTM

End of 2nd year: EMS, GMS, HRM, LAW, MKT & REM

Craft your resume and cover letter, tailored to the job description

Use our guide on pages 3-6 to create an effective resume and cover letter showcasing that you have the skillsets and qualifications. Tailor these pieces using the 'Co-op Student' job description on page 6.

Conduct your video interview

Answer 2 self-recorded video interview questions related to your skills and experiences using the VideoBio platform. Use our guide on page 8 to create your account and complete the interview.

Submit your application on the Co-op portal

Ted Rogers Co-op Program: Application Requirements

The Co-op selection committee will assess your application based on BOTH academic and non-academic requirements.

Academic Requirements

Academic standing and expected CGPA: School of Accounting & Finance (SAF): 3.0

All other Programs: 2.8

Course completion*: You must be able to provide evidence on your co-op application that you are, or will be on track academically by the time your first work term begins

*If you have an Academic Accommodation, please follow your unique course plan)

GMS students: a minimum of a B+ grade in GMS 400

Non-Academic Requirements

Life experiences: E g paid, volunteer, or community work

Level of engagement: E g student groups, TedPoints, tutoring, mentoring, athletics

Eagerness to learn: E.g. Bootcamps, or other learning outside of the classroom

Extra-curricular activity and leadership involvement

Interpersonal skills and attitude

This template can guide you through the sections of a resume, what to include, and how to create them Your resume is unique to you, so please write about your experiences in your own words

Section 1: Resume Header

What to include:

Your first and last name

Your TMU email address

Your telephone number

Example:

Your City and Province

Your LinkedIn profile (if you have one, hyperlink the URL) DO NOT INCLUDE your photo, age, gender

Section 2: Summary of Qualifications

What to include:

‘Hook’ your audience with a high-level summary emphasizing your strongest skills (Tip: leverage the skills noted on the 'Co-op Student' job description!)

Draw from your education, projects, work experiences, volunteer experiences, languages spoken, awards/ achievements/ recognitions, extra-curricular activities and personal projects

Highlight your technical skills

Limit each bullet to 2 lines max and include 4-5 qualifications

Format each bullet as: Skill + provide proof of how you ’ ve demonstrated/developed that skill

Example:

Demonstrated ability to build positive customer relationships over 2 years as a Dining Room Assistant

Strong collaborator who successfully organized an annual fundraiser as a Corporate Partnership Coordinator

Proficient in Microsoft Office - Excel (VBA), Word, Visio, Powerpoint, Ted Rogers Bootcamps completed - Python

Section 3: Education

What to include:

Showcase that you are earning your business degree!

Optional: If you are lacking experience on your resume, you can include key projects to showcase how you apply the knowledge gained to help the reader understand the value of your education

Section 4: Work Experiences

What to include:

In 3-5 bullet points, describe your experiences, tasks/duties you were responsible for, what you accomplished and how they benefited the organization

Regardless of whether your experience is directly related to your area of study, it's essential to consider the transferable skills you gained during your role

Refer to the 'Co-op Student' job description to highlight transferable skills and leverage the Resume Keywords Hub Insights Report for strong action verbs

Quantify (#, $, %) wherever possible

Highlight the most recent experiences first and work backwards

Format each bullet as: Resume Action Verb (speaks to the skill) + Task (what you did and how you did it) + What was the outcome/result of this (what were your achievements)

Example:

Dining Room Assistant, Fairmont Royal York Hotel

Aug. 2021 - Present

Interacted with customers providing food and beverage service while supporting large functions of 30-100+ guests, maintaining quality service in high volume times

Received Employee of the Month four times for demonstrating a strong work ethic during peak season

Collaborated effectively with 50+ team members to maintain the dining room in immaculate condition, adhering to rigorous food safety and cleanliness standards

Section 5: Volunteer/Extracurricular Experiences

What to include:

In 2-3 bullet points, describe the tasks/duties you were responsible for, what you accomplished and how they benefited the organization

Quantify (#, $, %) wherever possible

Example:

Corporate Partnership Coordinator, Scarborough Civic Centre

Jan.-Aug. 2023

Collaborated with a team of four, to organize the annual fundraiser with 100+ attendees raising $250,000+

Demonstrated strong negotiation abilities while engaging with vendors, maximizing the value of donated items and enhancing the overall success of the fundraiser

Section 6 (Optional): Professional Development & Certifications

What to include:

Highlight professional developments here including case competitions, Ted Rogers

Bootcamps, Certifications etc.

Example:

Bootcamps, Ted Rogers School of Management

Power of Excel (Level 1-3): Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Index Match, Slicers

Additional Resume Notes & Tips

Do these things:

Make sure that there are no spelling mistakes and that your formatting looks clean and consistent though every section of the document. Attention to detail matters!

Highlight the Ted Rogers Bootcamps you ’ ve completed. There are a couple of places you might highlight it; Summary of Qualifications, Education, Extracurricular Activities, or Professional Development sections

List your experience in reverse chronological order with the dates included.

Keep it concise and aim to keep your resume at 1 page. Your Career Consultant can always help you condense your resume if needed

Use an appropriate font size and style Your font should be size 11 or 12 and should be easy to read and professional, preferably a sans serif font

Don't do these things:

You do not need to list your high school diploma under Education You do not need “References Available Upon Request”, or reference lists/ letters included on your resume.

Avoid submitting a resume with excessive white space if it exceeds 1 page. If your resume is 2 pages long, ensure it fills both pages entirely. You do not need to include an objective statement.

Avoid using first person pronouns such as “I,” “ me, ” “mine,” or “ ours. ”

Ted Rogers Co-op Program: Cover Letter Template

A cover letter provides a brief introduction to who you are, why you are interested and what makes you uniquely qualified for the Co-op Program Your cover letter should NOT be a repetition of your resume. Think of your cover letter like a teaser movie trailer, you ’ re trying to build excitement and interest so your reader wants to learn more about you.

Section 1: Cover Letter Header

This video will support you in creating your account on the Co-op portal to submit your full application: resume, cover letter and unofficial transcript

Create your Co-op portal account

Visit recruitstudents.torontomu.ca and click on the “Students” tab, and then “Apply to Co-op” to log in with your Toronto Met U credentials.

Before you begin your application, please click on the "My Account" tab to complete your student profile. This is a critical step in the application process

Upload your documents (resume, cover letter, unofficial transcript) and submit your Co-op application
