Downtime and

material use slashed thank to advanced secondary packaging from Cama Group

According to Statista, the Eastern European confectionary market accounts for some US$49.99 bn in revenue and is expected to grow by 5.13 % CAGR between 2022 and 2027. Coupled to changes in demographics and an increasingly more affluent society, many of the leading confectionary companies as are looking to expand and introduce new products, brands and formats. With the introduction of new brands comes the additional challenges for production and packaging, as new machinery with automation – the only obvious candidate to address an expanding market – has to be deployed across the board to cater for additional capacity requirements. But for this automation investment to be truly effective, it must offer unparalleled total cost of ownership, giving the end user as much agility and flexibility as possible to cater for multiple formats. Gone are the days of one machine for one pack style or brand. These days, modern production and packaging machines have to be incredibly flexible to cater for all possibilities. And it was for this

reason, among many others, that a leading global confectionary brand approached Cama Group for new packaging solutions to be installed at its expanding Eastern Europe facilities.

According to Alessio Borgo, key account manager at Cama Group: “The customer was looking to enlarge its local business, through the introduction of new tablets and bars, all of which had to be packaged by the same machine. In short, it needed a new all-in-one solution that offered maximum flexibility and high performance for a wide range of products and configurations”. Cama’s solution comprised a tailored version of its class leading IF296 Monobloc toploading case packer. Capable of receiving

products from the preceding flow wrapper at a rate of 950 ppm, the machine takes flat case blanks from an ergonomically designed magazine and erects them before transferring them to the loading station. Here, multiple 2-axis robots – designed and perfected inhouse by Cama – pick the confectionary products from a grouping device and loads them into cartons. Once the cartons are filled, they are closed and sealed using another robot.

Part of Cama’s Breakthrough Generation (BTG), the IF Series has design and operational features that are setting the standard in secondary packaging. Their modular, scalable and hygienically designed frameworks house contemporary automation solutions – including advanced rotary and linear servo technology – which can be tightly coupled to in-house-developed robotics, to deliver the all-important flexibility and adaptability required by modern packaging operations. The machine range is also based on a digital platform that supports full Industry 4.0 capabilities, including AR, VR and virtual testing, training and operation.

In addition to supplying the secondary packaging technology, Cama’s packaging design team was able to vastly improve the existing carton design. “The original carton was of a two-piece design with an inner tray,” explains Alessio. We were able to redesign this, replacing it with a single flat-blank based carton, which saves an incredible 15-20 % in packaging materials. With sustainability being a crucial metric, especially for a customer with such a large global footprint, this saving equates to a huge reduction in material use”.

Another major saving was achieved in the changeover routines. “We have worked very hard to develop streamlined changeovers,” Alessio elaborates. “Using guided systems and RFID identification, our solution offers changeover times as short as just 10 minutes, which is class leading in any industry!”

This is another stunning example of Cama’s ability to offer the ‘whole package’ – from packaging design up to a fully featured and future proof secondary packaging solution.

Caseartecnica Bartoli: alongside the dairy company with automatic or semi-automatic solutions

A wide range of machines designed for the entire milk supply chain. From the professional packaging industry to the needs of small producers and traders.

Caseartecnica Bartoli offers cutting and packaging solutions for the dairy sector designed to work in line or stand alone, thus responding to the demand for effective, automatic or semi-automatic tools.

Caseartecnica Bartoli is preparing for the next edition of CibusTec next October, consolidating what was already presented in the last edition (in the pre-covid era) with the exhibition and presentation of a new milk processing agitator for the production in particular of Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano. Completely oriented towards compliance with the hygiene and non-contamination requirements of the product that the market requires: it is an absolute novelty. The EVO Stirrer is equipped with a brushless motor with permanent magnets without a reduction gear and without oil inside. The current situation of the market and the sector requires products that have the primary objective of energy saving and environmental sustainability. This is undoubtedly a turning point in the sector where Bartoli has been present for over 60 years with machinery that responds in real time to the needs of the sector. Caseartecnica Bartoli develops and assembles new machinery along this path, putting innovation and respect for the product first.

The offer of Caseartecnica is completed with cutting machines: the use of automatic and semi-automatic machines for cutting hard and semi-hard cheese and other products other than dairy products (ham slices, pumpkins, frozen products, etc.). The cutting machines - portioners and panel saws - have a vocation towards ever greater automation of the production cycle with ever greater performance speeds.

The market trend and international customers allow Caseartecnica Bartoli to export 15% of its annual production abroad, mainly for Northern and Eastern Europe, in countries such as Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Serbia, but reaches also nonEuropean markets such as Canada, the U.S.A. and Brazil and Albania and Russia.

FOOD INDUSTRY 22 EASTERN EUROPE EDITION 2023/2024
The agitators are mainly placed on the Italian market: the production of cheeses in the Italian territory, in fact, guarantees a preponderant market share. Without forgetting, however, the expansion - precisely in the two-year period 2020-22 - with a supply to Brazil and the United States, Hungary, and Russia for a production of “grain-like”. The current national and international context makes us hope for a positive, but not easy reaction for the next few years, certain of a consolidation of its presence on the national and international market. The return to presence for the entire trade fair sector will allow us to be present and available for new meetings and new markets in the coming months. info@caseartecnica.it

Color Service Srl

Automatic Dosing System: Accurate, reliable and eco-friendly Color Service is an Italian excellence and since 1987 has positioned itself as a leading supplier of automatic dosing systems for any kind of powder and liquid product. With a start in the textile field and thanks to years of experience and know-how, Color Service introduced its unique technology into many markets segments (rubber, tire, cosmetics, plastics) before orienting his innovation into the food industry, where the dosing of powders and liquids requires considerable precision, speed and traceability. Weighing is a key element of the food production process for quality compliance: dosing the proper amount of ingredients is extremely important to fulfill recipe specifications and constant quality requirements.

In most cases, the food industry’s weighing department employs operators who manually dose raw ingredients, resulting in difficult and complicated management in terms of weighing accuracy.

To support this necessity, our technology is designed to solve problems associated with the manual weighing of any kind of powders and liquids applied in the food industry and it is developed with the goal of achieving a safe, fast and precise dosing. The aim is therefore the development of high-efficiency systems that allow to minimize the production costs and boost productivity while also improving final product quality, essential for the competition of all companies.

According to customer’s requirements, Color Sevice offers to the market two solutions of

automation: a complete full automatic and a semi automatic weighing system.

Full automatic dosing system

With the full automatic dosing system, all processes are automatically monitored and data are recorded in the software integrated with the customer’s management system. The activity of the operator is exclusively confined in the loading of products into storage silos of various capacities through high-performance vacuum for powders and pump for liquids that guarantee fast loading with low air consumption.

During the dosing, a multi-scale conveyor completely aspirated through a dedicated dust extraction system allows high dosing accuracy of recipes that can be dosed directly into a bucket or in identified bags created in a completely automatic way: this is a fundamental characteristic that allows each individual recipe to be traced. The full automatic system, guarantees high dosing accuracy, batch traceability and modularity of storage stations and according to product consumption and production requirements,

the system offers several storage modules of different capacities that could be interchangeable or expanded in the future. Semi-automatic dosing system

On the other hand, the semi-automatic weighing system can offer a good compromise: the robotic storage of powder products with the manual weighing assisted by a PC. In this way, according to the recipe, the system drops the right box and transfer it to the weighing position, where the operator, guided by the PC can dose the product.

Key benefits of our automatic dispensing system

By investing in an automatic dosing system, the customer will be able to benefit from a repeatable production process that runs 24 hours a day, is reliable and fast, in which human error is definitively eliminated and which allows leading to high-quality end products with uniformity features throughout time. Systems are user-friendly and software is intuitive and easy to use, allowing a quick and easy understanding.

“Dosing right the first time” as a consequence of accurate and exact dosing of powders and liquids, results in a reduction of product waste, energy/water consumption, processing times and, as a consequence, cost.

From the ecological point of view, Color System technology reduces to zero the exposure for operators to dangerous substances or toxic ingredients and provides absolute control of the dust emitted during the weighing with the use of special suction devices, ensuring total operator safety and environmental protection.

Another significant advantage is the traceability of recipes. Indeed with a manual weighing, in case of non-conformity, it is impossible to identify all the products that are affected by this problem downstream and it is difficult to trace the causes upstream that can be represented for example by an incorrect mixing proportion or from a non-conformity of a specific ingredient. Without expensive labor costs due to manual batch processing and profit loss due to recipe formulation mistakes, companies can begin to boost profits, while offering a superior and uniform product to their customers.

ME Food Solutions: Philosophy in eight points

Millennium Engineering S.r.l. was founded in 1996 and immediately stood out for stainless steel processing, with particular attention to AISI 304 steel. The quality of the laser cutting processes for metal sheets and tubes, punching and welding, and the precision in bending are just some of the reasons that immediately led to important collaborations in the construction of food machinery.

In May 2011, the company welcomed Engineer Luca Priore as Director who immediately enriched the company with innovative research by designing a new food conveyor belt model: The DLSNS belt. The goodness of the invention culminated on 19/03/2013 with the Patent for Utility Model, which on 27/11/2013 became a Patent for Industrial Invention. This certification would be expanded and extended in 2019.

In parallel with these research, Millennium Engineering establishes itself as a real brand, “ME Food Solutions”, filing the trademark in 2019. The systems designed and manufactured cover the different stages of food processing: deep-freezing, cooling, leavening, pasteurizing, conveying.

More than 20 years of applied research indicate ME Food Solutions as an innovative and reliable company. A worldwide sales network capable of supporting the parent company in the challenges of the global market confirms these attitudes.

The eight key points of ME Food Solutions’ philosophy

To achieve its goals, ME Food Solutions has structured itself around an eight-point philosophy: Let’s see them!

1 - Resistance

The evolution of industrial processes, very high-productivity coefficients, and market’s unavoidable demands require increasingly high-performance machinery.

Thanks to the high quality of the materials used and specialised skills in all phases of design and assembly, ME Food Solutions can offer customers solid and reliable equipment, manufactured to stand the test of time.

2 - Flexibility

“It’s impossible!” ME Food Solutions engineers have often heard this statement, always experiencing it as a challenge. Indeed, the motto shared by the design team is: “Where others do not arrive, we begin”. Listening attentively to each customer’s needs and immediately activating all channels aimed at their effective satisfaction are the pillars on which each food plant built by ME Food Solutions is based.

3 - Continuous innovation

What distinguishes ME Food Solutions is certainly a continuous ferment of ideas that soon become Patents.

The latest generation of materials, use of advanced accessory components, and highly customised technical achievements, proceed in unison with the most advanced mechanical and IT technologies: Even thousands of kilometres away, the ME Food Solutions representative can verify and intervene on the functional parameters of each food machine.

4 - Customisation

For ME Food Solutions, there are no small customers or uninteresting projects. The same dedication is reserved for international industrial groups as for the craftsman wishing to expand his production. Therefore, no standard models, but production lines built to specific customer requirements.

5 - Integral design

From the first “dimensioning” calculations to the definition of the individual food machinery and the necessary plant components, ME Food Solutions plans and designs everything, providing the end customer with a complete, ready-to-use production line. Large projects and prototypes, this is the wide range of possibilities, all expertly defined through an integral design that brings together the different specializations of the technical departments.

44 EASTERN EUROPE EDITION 2023/2024 FOOD INDUSTRY

Millennium Engineering Srl

6 - Convenience

ME Food Solutions can offer its food machinery at the best market conditions. The secret is in the use of materials, such as AISI 304 steel and FDA-certified technopolymers that are taken to their maximum technical possibility, guaranteeing resistance but rejecting waste. Added to this factor, is the possibility of offering the customer an allround customisation: A custom-made food plant is more performing, guarantees much higher production standards and, moreover, is also amortised much faster.

7 - Internal testing

Trust is a determinant factor and must be respected. This is the deep motivation for which each machinery is assembled and monitored for days at the ME Food Solutions headquarters which carefully verify functional parameters and dimensions.

Right after the assembly and testing phase, client has the plant and can immediately start production.

8 - Hygiene

Strict regulations issued by the European Union and other international authorities (e.g. FDA certifications) in the field of industrial food processing have directed ME Food Solutions towards precise and careful design methods, determining the so-called hygiene philosophy.

From the synergetic interaction of these eight points, a true modus operandi emerges and makes ME Food Solutions an undisputed and globally recognised reference in the world of food industry.

Mini Motor wireless technology: COA – Can Over Air

New patented technology known as COA to become the benchmark in the field. Mini Motor was established in 1965 but it wasn’t until 1974 that the company came into being as the industrial electric motor manufacturer it is today.

The company started with metals and electricity, later adding electronics and

computer engineering to its competencies. Industrial automation and mechatronics were then introduced in the late Seventies and early Eighties. These were two strategic traits for Mini Motor and already in its DNA at the time of its inception. Research, development, and innovation: COA – Can Over Air, Mini Motor’s new wireless technology.

In 2012, Mini Motor set on a road of R&D and design innovation with the introduction of on-board drives on gearmotors and servomotors. As a result of this, a wide range of products were designed and developed for several years. At the same time, the company was working with various types of fieldbuses, initially with analogue fieldbuses (Canopen and Modbus) and then the more advanced ethernet buses (Profinet, Ethercat, Powerlink and Ethernet IP). All this led to a considerable reduction of wires and drag chains but, most importantly, to greater electrical panel efficiency, as the drive system was delocalised and built into the motors.

In 2018, at the end of this phase, the focus shifted to a new, ambitious, and exciting project: Mini Motor wanted to do more for the general economy of a machine. And so, it created COA - Can Over Air. Mini Motor has developed a proprietary wireless bus based on ZIGBEE technology at 2.4 Mhz that enables wireless control of the motor. The information is simply sent via a coordinator provided by Mini Motor that acts as a transparent wire, making it possible to remotely manage format changeovers or speed and torque changes.

This new patented technology, known as COA, is set to become the benchmark in the field, just like the wire had been. The new range will be identified with the letter “W” at the beginning of the code and can be adopted on all Mini Motor products with built-in drives in the DBS and DR series and on the very latest FC - Fast Change range for high-speed format changeover. Mini Motor always has a foot in the door of the future. Join Mini Motor in this road to innovation

Molitecnica Sud is a metalworking company founded in Altamura more than 50 years by Giuseppe Pellicola (Knight in the Order of Merit for Labour), with the aim of building unique machines for mills. Subsequently, the management of the company was passed on to his four sons, who have grown it to such an extent that it is now able to satisfy new sectors in addition to milling, namely pasta factories, bakeries and feed mills.

Today, the third generation of the Pellicola family works to carry on the same founder’s passion for the work, but with a more global vision: “spreading Italian milling and food culture around the world”.

To achieve this goal, Molitecnica Sud has built up a network of partners to offer complete solutions for the food industry, also for the foreign market. Thanks to these collaborations, Molitecnica Sud is able to supply, in addition to milling plants, pasta and industrial bakery plants, compact milling plants (designed for developing countries), stockage systems, auxiliary machines and 24-hour automatic shops.

Molitecnica Sud, together with its partners, is committed to the national and international market. The company is able to satisfy the needs of customers from all over the world. Specifically, the company has marked its presence, not only in Italy, but also in Eastern Europe (especially the Balkans), in the African continent (mainly in the Maghreb area) and the Middle East. In this latest period, requests from Poland have intensified, thanks to a partnership with a polish company. The results in global markets have also been achieved through the 100% Made in Italy certification. In fact, the Institute for Protection of Italian Manufacturers attests that Molitecnica Sud’s products respects the requirements of the “IT01 - 100% Original Italian Quality” system. This means, not only that the machines and the plants are produced exclusively in Italy, but also certifies the quality of the materials used and realizations in respect of work, hygiene and safety.

In addition, Molitecnica Sud offers its customers a rich package of services: preventive analysis, grinding diagrams, personnel training, remote assistance, maintenance, consultancy and

pre- and post-sale technical assistance. The flagship is certainly customised design. In fact, the company deals with tailor-made projects, analysing the requirements of each individual customer.

The Research and Development (R&D) area is fundamental, because the solutions proposed are result of in-depth studies. Molitecnica Sud has embraced industry 4.0 to make plants highly technological. In fact, it is possible to request plants with sensor technology capable of providing real-time data on production, safety and machine status. In addition, the possibility of automation is offered to automate and lead the plants remotely.

One of the most important innovations for the company is the use of Augmented Reality. Molitecnica Sud has recently implemented AR technology to offer an advanced remote assistance. The latter, using visors, allows remote assistance work to be carried out.

Augmented reality is also used at fairs. Thanks to this technology and appropriate visors, it is possible to show all the machines and plants without having to physically bring them to the fair.

In addition, AR technology is used to show a preview of the installations requested. The technicians go to the customer’s empty factory and with the use of the visors, they are able to project the machines in real size, in the position where they will be installed. In this way, it is possible to verify that there are no structural obstacles, and the installation is perfectly positioned in the place chosen by the customer. From the ecosustainability point of view, it is important to highlight that this choice allows reducing the CO2 consumption, due to journeys of the specialised technicians and the possible transport of the machines to the events. Only a limited number of previously trained technicians, with a well-defined experience, can access the Masterclass in order to guarantee a high-degree training. 360° advanced training focusing on the knowledge of seeds, through cereal and pulses processing, to finished product sales.

On account of this corporate positive development, OCRIM’s R&D department has experimented such new strategies and state-ofthe-art projects to be broadly acknowledged as unique in the milling sector and in full harmony with the novelties the company has been experiencing. The partnership between OCRIM and some Italian universities, whose contribution is crucial to get valuable results to gain benefits for the milling sector in general, continues and is increasingly efficacious.

OCRIM’s various communication instruments to convey its orientation have been greatly changed in such a way as to finetune the company’s language to the new trends. In fact, the company boasts considerable visibility through both national and international sector publications, via its LinkedIn profile, Ocrim S.p.A. | LinkedIn, and its three internet websites: the corporate website www.ocrim.com, one dedicated to the company’s museum www. ocrimcore.com, one dedicated to the blog www.ai-lati.com, strongly wanted by OCRIM as a real information provider for the entire

Founded in 2000, PND is one of the leading companies in the manufacturing of fruit processing machinery. A business mainly related to exports, which is worth 95% of the total turnover. PND operates on a global scale and is strongly present in Europe, South America, the United States, Asia, Australia and Africa. There are 19 machines in the catalogue that are easy to intuit, use and maintain. Among the top products there are peeling machines, coring machines, automatic and manual cutters, for multiple fruit varieties, as well as treatment and pre-washing tanks.

Strawberry, apple, pear, kiwi, melon, pineapple, mango, peach, lemon, watermelon, citrus; each fruit has different intrinsic and external characteristics and responds to different market needs. The PND brand machines are modular, therefore they lend themselves to the construction of a tailor-made process line for the customer. It is in fact possible, through targeted requests, to combine a machine suitable for cutting into wedges and chunks with a peeler.

Since September, a new machine has been added to the catalogue, the PND new cherry tomato cutter, designed for cutting in half and in quarters. Fast, with a production capacity of about 200 kgs per hour; safe since it is designed to comply with all the safety standards required by current regulations, for example with the covered cutting unit; innovative because of its automatic loading, thus also saving manpower. The product is, in fact, collected in a hopper and, through an elevator conveyor, lift to the loading belt that aligns and transfers it to the cutting station. The cutting unit is composed of 4 rotating circular blades that, operated together, allow the cut into quarters. A mechanical lever system allows, instead, to move 2 blades so as to obtain the cut in half. Finally, an output conveyor, placed under the cutting station, collects the product easily.

Thanks to its innovative stainless-steel design, the machine treats cherry tomatoes of different calibre (Ø 25 - 40 mm) and is easy to handle being equipped with four wheels.

The company strength? Listening to the customer. PND is able to give a prompt response to the buyers, with processing lines designed according to their needs and requirements. A vision enabling to pay attention to technological performance, perfectly tailored to the needs of those who choose them.

It is a truly global machine, as PND srl is also truly global, being based in Italy, but with representative offices located in several different countries.

A team consisting of 40 employees, including administrative and sales staff, technicians and engineers, based at its headquarters in Scafati, in the South of Italy, works alongside agents and technical offices all around the world

Indeed, the human element is one of the main resources of a company with mechanical and technical strengths such as these. Despite the widespread presence of PND representatives on the various continents, when it comes to installing a new machine, there is always an expert who travels from the parent company and follows the process through to completion.

This assumption of responsibility is a guarantee for the customer, which knows from the very first moment that it is going to be accompanied constantly from the design phase to the commissioning of the system.

This constant attention to the needs of its customers is a winning strategy that allows continuous updating in the field and a swift response to customer needs means that customised production lines can be offered to them.

The opportunity to deal constantly with customers all around the world offers the technicians from PND the opportunity to tackle new challenges and properly understand the needs of their customers.

PND invites you to discover the PND world visiting its website www. pndsrl.it, where you can find all details about its machinery and have info referring to the company’s participation in the national and international trade fairs.

64 EASTERN EUROPE EDITION 2023/2024 FOOD INDUSTRY

The Industrial Pizza Line is one of the latest products designed and manufactured in SIGMA.

Born from twenty years of experience in the production of cold spreaders for pizza in the craft sector, the machine adopts on industrial scale the concept tested for several years and operating in thousands of machines sold all over the world.

It is the machine that most closely reproduces the manual skill of the pizza maker, imitating his unequalled delicacy. The original protected micro-rolling system, rigorously patented, was born from a successful and original intuition, developed and implemented to obtain a processing of the pasta similar to that of expert hands. The exceptional nature of the machine consists in preparing the base of the pizza, already with the edge, starting from the dough ball, without altering the dough, exactly as the hands of a skilled pizza chef would do. The use is simple and practical; the shapes are always perfect.

In its industrial configuration, the machine is composed of a belt conveyor of about 5000mm in length and a variable width according to the numbers of rows defined to achieving the hourly quantity to be produced.

The pizza processing sequence includes the dough balls loading area, preceded by an automatic flour duster for the carpet and a further automatic flour duster for the ball, the preparation of a power factor correction (centring device) for the dough balls, a pre-

chasing spreading, a further automatic flour duster for the first disc obtained, a further cold chasing spreading by means of the patented SIGMA system.

A scraper for the conveyor belt, a tray for recovering flour excess and a touch screen panel for storing work cycles and controlling the line complete the machine. The machine develops on one or more rows

in the longitudinal direction for the workings, from 1 up to 4 rows maximum. No dough reworks have to be managed.

The maximum reference cycle times are approximately 800 pizzas/h per row from 100 to 500gr weight and from 20 up to 40cm of diameter. It is on developing a new system to increase the maximum hourly capacity, ready to be sold from the end of 2023. The structure is completely in AISI 304 steel. The moulding area is protected by opening doors.

The machine is designed to integrate upstream with the balls feeding system and downstream with the subsequent process of topping.

The long experience of SIGMA in mixing solutions together with a long experience with partners specialized in manufacturing other parts of the pizza line production, as dividers-rounders, proofers and ovens allow SIGMA to support the customers to realize the complete system.

sheeters, croissant groups, work tables, planetary machines and cutting rollers in Aisi 304 steel.

From this year the company began a real revolution, but always maintaining tradition.

It starts with the manual table top and floor standing sheeters that are much more compact and ergonomic. The modern style and cutting-edge materials are captivating even the most demanding customers. The mechanics maintains some key points, but is also renewed, allowing the customer less maintenance and greater resistance. The goal is to make this range even more solid and intuitive, thus facilitating the operator especially in routine cleaning.

The new dough sheeter is good for multiple applications: from pastry shops to hotels, catering, etc. The existing options have been made even more advanced, for example the thickness detector, which allows you to calibrate the lowering of the calibrating cylinders to exactly check the thickness of the dough. Now this accessory counts a lot of digital display larger, in color and very accurate in reading.

Z.matik is certified according to the TÜV SÜD - ISO 9001 quality system and complies with all standards for food contact. Finally, each product is sanitized before packaging, in order to guarantee the customer greater safety of use.
