TRAINING IT PROFESSIONALS Innovative Learning Environment Since 2004 the philosophy behind Techtorium has remained the same - the IT industry needs graduates who have practical, hands-on knowledge. New Zealand is experiencing a digital uprising and the IT industry is one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing sectors.

The demand for young IT graduates is extremely high and assures positive long-term job success. *According to NZ Tech Industry Association, there are more than 28,000 companies employing more than 100,000 people in IT and the number is steadily growing on a daily basis. Demand within New Zealand’s IT sector showed a further boost in February 2016, with SEEK jobs ads increasing by 74% compared to the same time last year. Everything is now product, app, design and user experiencedriven. It is no longer good enough to have something that just works, it needs to look marketable, userfriendly and most importantly, be a platform to realise a commercial outcome which is why most companies are eager to recruit new IT talent.

LAUNCHING YOU INTO THE IT INDUSTRY IT Education is continually challenged to meet the needs of New Zealand and the global IT industry. Since 2004 Techtorium NZIIT has continued to respond to the needs of the IT industry and stakeholders by expanding our course provision to better prepare our learners for full-time employment in the industry. This is what we call Employment Pathways.

As one of the fastest growing and the highest performing IT institutes in New Zealand, our flexible approach continues to see the organisation maintain a high percentage of (present and past) students full-time and part-time graduate roles. Our ongoing collaboration with the New Zealand IT industry (this includes Datacom, New Era IT, Dimension Data, Fujitsu, Slingshot to name a few), guarantees that Techtorium students gain employmentcentric and transferable skills, as well as gain vocational qualifications that remain relevant to the IT industry.

Some of our Employment Partners Soft Skills and Personal Development Being highly technical isn’t the only criteria required to be a great IT professional. Your communication skills, critical thinking aptitude and capacity to work collaboratively are the skills that will make the difference between you and another job candidate. Students are encouraged to extend themselves via a range of supporting activities which include, work experience at employers, tutoring junior students, working at career fairs and working with our infrastructure team on our own network here at Techtorium. The Employment Pathways team also offers Employment Skills workshops where students will be prepared for interviews so they are fully ready to face their potential future employer.

A Cloud Services Manager is responsible for the planning, development, installation, configuration, testing, administration, troubleshooting and documentation of enterprise cloud-based systems. This also includes interfaces, shared components, networking and application level protocols.

They will oversee and co-ordinate with cloud service providers to optimise the performance of companies cloud infrastructure.

WHERE TO START? Techtorium provides school leavers with guidance into tertiary study at Techtorium which may involve Student for a Day or a taster course through our ICE and CODE programmes.

STAR / Gateway

ICE and CODE programmes As part of our plan to create clear pathways from secondary school right through to the IT industry, we support the Gateway and STAR Programmes.

Through any one of our ICE and CODE courses students may gain credits that go towards their NCEA Level 2 and 3 qualifications. Gateway Learning Plans can be achieved as each of our ICE and CODE courses offer nine credits or above.

Student for a Day Spend a day with us to understand us. We want you to make an informed decision about your tertiary study so we have developed ‘Student for a Day’.

Here at Techtorium, we see education as the most important life decision you’re going to make in the next 5 years. That’s why want to give you the opportunity to ‘test the waters’. Techtorium Student for a Day is a chance for you to experience what it’s really like to be a Techtorium student, without having to dedicate yourself to an entire year of study. It’s a chance for you to find out what makes us so different, and whether the exciting, innovating and forward thinking environment is right for you!

We do things a little differently here at Techtorium to stay ahead of the game.

We’ve turned education upside-down, flipped it around and come up with a more innovative way of helping you achieve your educational and career goals.

The inclusive and supportive culture at Techtorium sees students from many different backgrounds enjoy their common interest together forging new IT relationships amongst their peers and this is no exception when it comes to students doing our taster programmes. Staying in school to finish year 12 or 13 is valued and we support schools by encouraging students to do so.

We are here to help schools provide incentives for students, such as mentioned above, so that informed decisions can be made and clear pathways are achieved.

STUDENT LOANS & ALLOWANCES

Loans available – information available from StudyLink • Up to the total amount requested by education provider for compulsory fees.

• Up to $1,000.00 (maximum per annum) for programme related costs.

• Up to $173.56 before tax a week to full time students for living costs depending on amount of student allowance.

Repayment of Student Loan – information available from StudyLink • $50.00 for an administration fee.

• Loans become repayable when the borrower is earning $19,084 ($367.00 per week gross) or more.

• Until such time as the borrower is earning $19,084.00 per year they may be eligible for an interest rebate.

Please refer to the Student Loans information issued by Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ).

Student Allowances – information available from StudyLink A full time student who is a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident may be eligible for a Student Allowance.

The student is not required to pay this amount back. The amount of the allowance is based on the student’s: • Age • Parental income • Spouse’s income • Place of residence during the term Changes of personal details – information available from StudyLink Any changes to the original details supplied at the time of enrolment must be given to the Trainer immediately. This is essential for Student Loans and Allowances and any administrative business of Techtorium NZIIT. A student will be required to complete a change of circumstances form if any of the following details change during the programme of study: • Name • Address • Residency / Citizenship • Enrolment in an additional programme • Change or withdrawal from the programme Please note: Failure to complete the course of study or pay back the student loan in the agreed time may affect your ability to draw down future student loans.
