3D Printing 3D printing is a growing technology that lets you replicate almost any object you want. 3D printing allows you to create a solid physical 3-dimensional object from a 3D model design on a software. You can even scan an object using a 3D scanner, which creates a 3D model on the computer from any real life object you scan. Then you can use the 3D printer to actually make a similar solid object from the scanned 3D model. The ability to do that is called additive manufacture (meaning without cutting, drilling, shaving off and grinding materials).

3D printers can create the object using a lot of different materials such as glass, ceramic, aluminum, stainless steel, wax, sand and glue, human tissue. You can even use food like chocolate or cheese to build objects.

The building material is melted by heat, UV light, chemical reactions, or other methods. The machine then builds the object you want layer by layer.

The 3D printing machine cuts the material using laser light or a knife to create the shape of your designed object. It wastes the least material possible and lessens the cost of building; the machine uses needed material only.

3D printing is used to create initial models to see if the customer is satisfied with your product. Also, 3D printing is useful for making missing parts in any broken item. Moreover, you can use it to manufacture final products.

3D printing can be used to make shoes, jewelry, art, tools, gifts and thousands of other things.

Car and aircraft making companies use 3D printers to make building parts, specifically for the engine.

Doctors use it to make 3D models of their patientâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s body bones and organs rather than spending hours operating on a patient to see the body parts. 3D printers are also used to actually make artificial body parts used in implants like knee and spine bones. Some say it can eventually actually create functional organs.

There are rumors of Google creating a new music store for Android phones, or as some people have heard “Google Audio.” This music store is supposed to be something like an iTunes for Android phones, allowing its users to share music through email. It can also work with Google +.

Google has been trying to sign Warner Company so that it can use its products. However, Warner’s concerns are not that of piracy or privacy. It appears Warner has more of an issue with Google’s Music Locker feature, which allows people to store up to 20,000 songs from your own personal music to any computer or from your Android for no fee. Warner argues that Google is not offering enough incentive, as Warner will not receive revenue through the Google Music Locker.

People hypothesize that the Google music store is a way to put competitors at an end.

It is said that part of Google’s master plan is to run iTunes and Bing out of business. Most people believe that Google is doing this so that more people are reminded the company’s main priority is to use its search engine more, which is becoming secondary due to the fear of their biggest competitor-Bing.

The music store plans on opening without the music of four major music labels in the US, from which 87% of the US’s music is found. If Android customers don’t find their music, they most likely will cease to buy from the Google music store. This poses as a reason why the Google music store is being withheld; Google is trying to sign contracts with these labels to sell music.

Google has been trying to sign these top four labels, but Sony has expressed serious concern for its products’ rights if they will be sold in the Google music store. Sony complains that Google does not prevent piracy enough to sell its products in the store. The lack of formalities with these four labels is what is delaying the Google music store from being launched.

Siri:

Your Wish Is My Command Siri is a smart application found in the iPhone 4S, which was released in October. Siri funtions as a voice recognition personal assistant, that you can use to tell or ask your iPhone 4S anything you want, and it replies with an answer or helps you find anything.

You can ask Siri to remind you about something or send a message to your mom. You can even ask Siri about the nearest coffee shop in town or to play a song.

Siri uses the information in your phone like contact lists, calendars, and other applications to better understand you. So you can tell it “call dad” or “e-mail mom” and it will know who you mean. It also uses the internet to answer your questions.

You can use Siri to read your messages or notes out loud, and you can read something out loud and Siri will type it for you.

Siri is useful mostly because it makes it easier for the user to multi- k. For example, if you are running, cooking, driving or busy doing something and don’t have time to go through your phone to contact someone, all you need to do is tell Siri what to do through a Bluetooth headset, and it will be done!

More importantly though, Siri is very helpful for blind people who can now tell Siri what they want their iPhone to do and it can read out any message for them out loud without having to look.

Whereas there have been other voice-command applications, Siri is unique because it understands your natural spoken language. Siri understands different accents, and you can tell it something that is not in Standard English and not specific to the software and Siri will understand.

You don’t have to be specific with Siri and ask “What are the closest Arabic restaurants?” You can say something indirect, like “I feel like eating Arabic food.” Siri will give you results of the nearest Arabic restaurants.

If Siri didn’t understand something, it will ask you questions to further understand you.

Siri remembers names in your contact list, places you go and more. Siri will remember who your coworker, colleague and family member is without mentioning their names and only saying something like “Call Dad”.

Siri also remembers what you previously ask and references these questions. So if you ask about Arabic food, and it does not develop a response, you can ask, “What about Italian?” And it will know you are referencing Italian food.

Siri is only available in English, French, and German so far. Apple announced that more languages and services will be available soon, hopefully Arabic will be one of them.

Another unique quality in Siri is that it has a personality. When you ask Siri to do something, it doesn’t just give you the answer; it is more like a conversation. For example, if you asked Siri “Will it be cold in Nablus tomorrow?” It won’t only show you the weather, or say yes or no, it will tell you something like “Don’t forget to take your jacket, it will be cold.”

Siri also has a sense of humor, replying to questions like “What’s the best Smartphone?” with “You’re holding it,” and if you ask it “Will you marry me?” it replies with “My End Licensing Agreement does not cover marriage.

My apologies” and other funny and smart replies.

There are a couple of issues with Siri, keeping in mind it is still in Beta form, or being tested. One slight issue is that even when your phone is locked with a pass code, anyone can press the home button and give Siri a command. This becomes a bigger issue if your phone is stolen. This issue can be fixed easily by changing the default settings. So, if you buy a new iPhone 4S, one of the first things you need to do is change this setting.

Another issue is that Siri only works if there is an internet connection, and it has limitations to maps and directions outside the U.S. The good news, on the other hand, is that since Siri was a Beta release, this only means it will get better.

The question is, will Apple use Siri with its other devices like the iPad and laptops? Also, are we entering a new age of talking to machines, or will this development remain exclusive to the iPhone?

I think, naturally, companies such as Google and Microsoft will attempt to make a similar application for their devices. This would create competition and improve this voice-command artificial intelligence application.

BMW is already interested in integrating Siri in its car models, so you can start talking with your car.

So what else does the future hide in terms of applications such as Siri?

Who knows? Maybe in the future Siri and its likes will be integrated in other technologies: your refrigerator might tell you what is inside it for example.

Or you could be walking down the street and see everyone having a conversation with their machines.

What a Bargain! 16 Apps for 50 Thousand Shekels iPhone applications are a mirror of personality, from the Starwars saber user to the Wall Street Journal reader.

But for some, it is hard to understand the personality of an individual spending 1,000 dollars on a single iPhone application.

Yes, the most expensive iPhone application costs 1,000 dollars at the iTunes store. With an app potentially costing more than the iPhone on which it is downloaded, and approximately the same as a decent laptop such as a Mac Book, the difference between a smart and sloppy spender can make one see the Apple logo as a tasty opportunity or a rotten fruit. An article published by BusinessInsider. com in late July 2011 listed the 16 most expensive iPhone applications; they run from $1000 for the most expensive app to $500 for the 16th most expensive, leaving it to you to decide if it is worth it.

Three of the sixteen most expensive applications are designed for future law school students. Lawyers can make a lot of money in the US, but it also costs a fortune to become a lawyer. In order for an undergraduate student to be admitted to law school, he or she has to take an entrance exam called LSAT. While an LSAT course may cost a struggling, poor student a few thousand dollars and nights without sleep, the LSAT Titan application, which runs in the iTunes store for $500, is “loaded with 6,300 LSAT practice questions” to get 28

future law students ready for the law school entrance exam. If a student has enough time to go through 6,300 questions, and $500 to spare, this would be a good buy.

For students already in law school in California or New York, the BarMax application offers 1,371 practice questions and 100 practice essays for the Bar Exam—which law students must pass in order to be allowed to practice law—all within the rectangular device branded with the logo of a fruit. Two iPhones can be purchased in California and New York for the price of the BarMax application, which is sold for $1,000.

Many of the applications listed do indeed have professional, career oriented tools. A business contractor may benefit from the streamlined information offered by the Spray application, which runs for $500.

Similarly, a dentist may consider purchasing DDS GP YES! application which, according to iTunes, is rated “best chair side case presentation software.” The developer, Kick Your Apps, Inc., is a developer of mostly dental iPhone applications. It offers the regular DDS GP app for $400 for those who want to save a little bit of money.

Spending on an application to improve job performance may be understandable. But what about the person who makes the mistake of spending $1,000 on the SongBook

DS application that is still being sold despite the developer making a cheaper, newer version of it for $25? And what about the person who purchases the QSFFStats application, which goes for $1,000 as well, in order to follow and track statistics for American football teams, recording scores and statistics for the user.

While QSFFStats and SongBook Ds do not make the wasteful aspect of some of these applications obvious, the iVIP Black application is made for those who have a rich lifestyle and want it nicely organized in their iPhone. iVIP Black or “The Millionaire’s App” links users to places that give “extra special experiences through surprise gifts, welcome packages, complimentary room upgrades, exclusive rates, priority access, and other unique privileges.” Created by iVIP Ltd, iVIP Black requires that purchasers “be at least 17 years old to download” due to “frequent/intense alcohol, tobacco, or drug use or references” according to the iTunes store.

VS moodle Classrooms all over the world are integrating online environments into their courses. Not only have they been used in universities, but in elementary through high schools and also in the creation of online schools. What makes these environments extremely valuable to students is the ability to use a computer. By being exposed to technology, students will become integrated into the digital world and be able to use future programs with ease. These environments also eliminate the need for paper assignments by allowing children and young adults to operate fully on the cloud. There are many learning environments that schools use, but Moodle and Blackboard are two of the most well-known environments out there.

Moodle was developed by Martin Dougiamas and stands for Modular ObjectOriented Dynamic Learning Environment. Moodle uses many of the same tools that most online learning environments use, including calendar, news and announcements, online quizzes, instant messaging and many other features. The focus is on collaboration and interaction between students and teachers.

A similar online tool is Blackboard, which was created by Blackboard Inc. It also uses many of the same tools that target teacher/student collaboration.

Blackboard has been utilized by various colleges to allow students to get class information easily and to learn from classmates through online discussion boards.

All online learning environments use similar tools. Whether you are an elementary student learning in an online environment or an online student pursuing your online MBA program, all online environments are composed of some of the same elements.

Blackboard’s page is a mono style page with fixed categories and sub categories while Moodle places general information at the side of the page with the more dynamic information in the center to include forums and updates.

Blackboard utilizes email to get information from teacher to student. The system is simple, but it is less collaborative than the forum style utilized by Moodle. Teachers post in the forum, and students can see and interact within a discussion.

Moodle adds students to class rosters automatically while Blackboard needs a specific file uploaded before it can register the class roster.

Moodle automatically updates the online calendar when quizzes are added, and Blackboard does not have this feature.

Each online learning environment was created with the same goal in mind: to integrate technology into student life. The outcome has been positive with the creation of several learning environments including the two most popular, Moodle and Blackboard. Though both have many similarities and differences, they are each great tools for online learning, and because they are in competition with one another they can only get better with time.

‫�أما بالن�سبة لذاكرة القر�ص‬ ‫ال�صلب (الهارد دي�سك) على‬ ‫اجلهاز فت�أتي ب�سرعة دوران‬ ‫‪ 7200‬دورة يف الدقيقة و�سعة‬ ‫‪ 500‬جيجا بايت‪ ،‬وهذه ال�سعة‬ ‫منا�سبة جد ًا لتخزين امللفات‬ ‫من �صور ومقاطع فيديو‪ .‬يجدر‬ ‫الذكر �أن بع�ض الأجهزة ت�أتي‬ ‫مزودة بقر�ص �صلب ب�سعة ‪640‬‬ ‫جيجا بايت ولكن ب�سرعة دوران‬ ‫‪ 5400‬دورة يف الدقيقة‪.‬‬ ‫ت�أتي لوحة املفاتيح اخلا�صة بهذا اجلهاز كاملة مع لوحة املفاتيح اخلا�صة بالأرقام‪ ،‬الأمر الذي‬ ‫كان حتى وقت قريب حكر ًا على الأجهزة ذات ال�شا�شات كبرية احلجم مثل ‪ 17.3‬و ‪� 18.4‬إن�ش‪،‬‬ ‫وهذا الأمر مفيد جدا لإدخال البيانات املالية واملحا�سبية‪.‬‬ ‫حجم ووزن اجلهاز منا�سبان لفئته‪ ،‬حيث يبلغ عر�ضه ‪� 37.6‬سم وعمقة ‪� 26‬سم وارتفاعة بني‬ ‫‪ 3‬و ‪� 3.5‬سم‪� ،‬أما الوزن فيبد�أ من ‪ 2.65‬كغم‪ .‬كانت متانة الهيكل وعدم �إنحناء القاعدة عند‬ ‫ال�ضغط عليها على الرغم من �أن الهيكل مبني ب�أكملة من البال�ستك‬ ‫من نقاط القوة التي القت ا�ستح�سان ًا من قبل امل�ستخدمني‪� .‬إىل‬ ‫ذلك‪ ،‬قامت ‪ Dell‬بطالء م�سند راحة اليد بلون الألومنيوم‪،‬‬ ‫مما �أ�ضفى مل�سة جمالية �أعطت �إنطباعا يوحي ب�أن امل�سند‬ ‫م�صنوع من الألومنيوم حقا‪.‬‬ ‫يف الن�صف العلوي من �إطار ال�شا�شة توجد كامريا ت�صوير‬ ‫فيديو بدقة ‪ 1‬ميجا بك�سل وو�ضوح ‪ .HD‬ي�أتي �أي�ضا بجانب‬ ‫الكامريا جهاز مايكريفون من �أجل مكاملات الفيديو وت�سجيل‬ ‫ال�صوت‪.‬‬ ‫بالن�سبة للمنافذ واملداخل‪ ،‬فلم تبخل ‪ Dell‬بتزويد اجلهاز بعدد ال ب�أ�س به‪� ،‬إذ زود اجلهاز‬ ‫مبدخلني ‪ ،USB 3.0‬ومدخل ‪ ،USB 2.0‬ومدخل مزدوج الإ�ستعمال ‪ E-SATA‬و ‪.USB 2.0‬‬ ‫عالوة على ذلك‪ ،‬هناك خمرج ‪ HDMI 1.4‬وخمرج ‪ VGA‬بالإ�ضافة �إىل مدخل لكابل ال�شبكة‬ ‫‪ RJ-45‬ومدخل للمايكريفون وخمرج لل�سماعات‪ .‬كنا نف�ضل �أن نرى خمرج ًا �آخر لل�صوت من‬ ‫�أجل م�شاركة اللحظات اجلميلة مع �صديق �أو لتعزيز ال�صوت عن طريق ربط �سماعات �إ�ضافية‪.‬‬ ‫مت تزويد اجلهاز بقارئ بطاقات ذاكرة لقراءة امللفات وال�صور‪ ،‬ويحتوى اجلهاز على نا�سخ‬ ‫�أقرا�ص ‪ DVD‬مثل كافة الأجهزة يف فئته‪� ،‬أما بالن�سبة ل�سماعات ال�صوت فقد ا�ستعملت �شركة‬ ‫‪� Dell‬سماعات بتكنولوجيا ‪ SRS Premium Sound‬التي تقوم بتنقية ال�صوت‪.‬‬ ‫�أما بالن�سبة لو�سائل الإت�صال يف اجلهاز‬ ‫فهي منفد الإيرثنت من نوع ‪،RJ-45‬‬ ‫بالإ�ضافة �إىل بطاقة �شبكات ال�سكلية واي‬ ‫فاي وبطاقة ربط بلو توث ‪ 3.0‬احلديثة‪.‬‬ ‫‪54‬‬
