FIELD TRIP
Written By Adriana Velasco Linares, TECA Times StaffAs I'm sure we all know, on April 4th, the entirety of TECA went on a huge school-wide field trip TK-8 all embarked on a trip to the Exploratorium, each grade returned and left at a different time, but it all went smoothly Students across all grades had a great time exploring and learning This has been the first time in our school's history that a field trip of this gravity has happened Everyone was very excited about it, and they were not disappointed; students and chaperones alike had a great time The trip was executed well; all classes got to the Exploratorium and back safely and on time. Even teachers without homerooms went including Ms Lucy, Mr Toumey, Ms Kate and Ms Dana! Overall, the field trip was a big hit, and I'm sure plenty of people look forward to the next one!

Better Than The Movies Book Review
Written By Adriana, TECA Times Staff
Better Than The Movies is a romance novel written by Lynn Painter. This novel focuses on the hopeless romantic and rom-comobsessed Elizabeth Buxbaum or Liz. Liz has had a crush on Michael Young since kindergarten; when she finds out that he has moved back for senior year, she makes it her mission to make Michael the Prince Charming in her happily ever after. The key to getting Michael is through her annoying and rambunctious neighbor Wesley Bennett or Wes. Micheal and Wes were close friends, so Liz sought his help to enamorize Micheal But could it be that while she chases after Micheal, she could fall for Wes? However, Wes could never be the guy from the movies that would give her her happily ever after, or could he?
Better Than The Movies is a sweet and fluffy romance that is very lighthearted and cute If you're into rom-coms or romance in general, I highly recommend this book. Lynn Painter does a great job writing Liz and Wes’s love story, and the romantic movie quotes add a special element. Liz and Wes's romance is adorable, and I guarantee you'll be rooting for them to get together in the end! The sweet little moments add to the story. There is even a playlist to listen along to while you read! Also, the sequel “Nothing Like The Movies” is coming out on October 1st. Age rating: 11+

Science Night
Nochede ciencia
By Vanessa Paige Crothers TECA Times StaffOn March 28, 2024, TECA had a Science Night! The school finally brought it back after four years of not having it. At Science Night there were so many fun activities! On one side of the cafeteria, there was a bunch of delicious food, and on the other side, they had a selection of different activities. For example one of them you would make DNA models with Twizzlers, jelly beans, and toothpicks! Outside in the yard, they had a station where you could make little rocket ships or cool explosions made out of soap and dry ice. There was also an area where some people made ice cream using dry ice. In the hallway, they had projects and art that some students made and some reptiles that a student brought in! At the end of Science Night, there was a crazy explosion of plastic balls all over the soccer field.
Science Night was super fun and had so many activities. I can't wait for it next year.

Disney musicale.
Written by: Nathaly G, TECA Times staff. On Friday, April 5th, Ms. Mari organized a Disney musical. At this event, some of the classes sang Disney songs!
Ms. Mari was inspired to organize a Disney musical because TECA has never had any Disney concerts. That gave her the idea to make TECA’s first annual Disney Musical Concert. She hopes it will become a TECA tradition in the years to come. Another reason she organized this event was because, growing up, she went to a school that had concerts regularly. Ms. Mari said that TECA had no one to organize something, so she asked Mr.Tuomey if she could plan one. Mr. Tuomey agreed to hold this event, so Ms. Mari began planning. All the decorations came from volunteers' production. The student council took charge and created big characters; Ms. Tammy made a beautiful handmade banner out of Disney characters. Ms. Soriano and her team spent days making our school banner and other pictures, and finally, Mr. Lamar from Mission Graduates created a spectacular balloon garland that flooded the stage.
“It was definitely a team effort, and I couldn't have done it without them,” said Ms Mari.
We hope that Ms. Mari will do it again next year.

We celebrate Earth Day to honor the achievements of environmental awareness and also to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the Earth. Now, it often includes different activities and events that are globally coordinated in more than 193 countries.
Many people think it is important to celebrate Earth Day and there are many ways to celebrate it. Some people plant trees or other plants, while others just pick up litter. Doing this can help make the world healthier and better.

The Wonders Of Nature
The word Nature has many meanings including things that are part of our earth, it is everything that has life. This includes things like landscapes, animals, plants, and even humans Nature lets us live on earth, if there is no nature like water, plants, or even animals. We wouldn't have any resources to live, this is because we humans rely on these types of resources to survive.
We rely on these resources because our bodies need plants and animals to get protein and water to stay hydrated Nature is also really calming, not just because of the resources but of its landscapes, beautiful views, fascinating locations, and scenery For some of us, it can help us calm down and forget about our problems by listening to the birds chirp and being near a calm lake, surrounded by different types of animals makes most of us feel like we can forget about things that stress us out. It makes us feel like we can actually escape those problems for at least a few seconds.
Nature also includes ocean water, even though we can’t drink it because it contains salt and will dehydrate us It is still an important part of nature You see if we didn’t have the ocean we wouldn’t have any type of seafood and sea animals on our earth Yes, we have land animals but they also need water to survive
It is really important to take care of our natural resources because if we didn't have them, we wouldn't be able to live on Earth. Some things that we can do to take care of our natural resources include recycling our trash since it's good for our soil and waters. We can also use our water wisely because our water is also mostly ice caps buried deep in the ground or glaciers. Due to this, it will be difficult to get it after it's gone. created by Samanda, TECA Times Staff

Out Of My Mind Book Review
By:DayanaMay,TECATimesStaff
Out of My Mind is a book by Sharon M. Draper. It's about an 11-year-old girl named Melody Brooks with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of multiple brain disorders affecting a person's movement, balance, and posture. Melody tries to live a normal life even with her lack of communication and movement. Her mother and father have to do everything for her, like feeding, changing, bathing, etc Melody would go to school with “normal” kids, while there was a class for the “special needs” kids, but they learned the same preschool-level stuff each year Since Melody couldn't speak, many people just assumed she was dumb when, in reality, she was really smart
Out Of My Mind is an excellent book and I would totally recommend it. If you like Out Of My Mind I would recommend watching the movie when it comes out later this year on Disney+.

Out Of My Mind is an excellent book and I would totally recommend it If you like Out Of My Mind I would recommend watching the movie when it comes out later this year on Disney+
Meet Our Principal, Mr.Tuomey
By: Jocelyn Angel Apreza, TECA Times StaffWhen Mr.Tuomey first became principal, the first thing he thought about was not messing anything up The scariest thing to him was that he would follow Mr Chavez's steps while he was principal, but he realized how much there was to learn about being a principal He was very scared because he had high standards for himself and had to remind himself to do his best, but not perfectly.
While Mr. Tuomey absolutely loves being principal, this new responsibility comes full of new challenges. But it's never boring, and he gets to see new parts of TECA along the way. His favorite thing to do is work with all grades. This is because he could only work with the higher grade levels before becoming principal. Mr. Tuomey's favorite part about being principal is helping students, teachers, and clubs, along with planning amazing events and projects, which are some of the things that have made this year super awesome.
Mr Tuomey has been here 19 years, and he's grown alongside TECA Something he likes about TECA is that the school puts the students first and does what's best for them Another thing he loves about working here is that, whenever there’s a problem, the community stays calm and comes up with great ideas to fix it. Everyone he works with is great, and he thinks they do their best to make the school a safe and loving place. TECA has given him more than he can give back.
“Thank you to the community and to those who have made this year a really good one. I couldn’t have done it without the support of teachers, staff and students”.

an art form that no one knows
by Derek VM

. .. .... ... is an artist that popularized an art form in the 2000s If we go back to as early as 2006, we can discover a group of guys who made a form of art that no one used. An art form that has no lyrics, only sound.
In 2006, Kieran Hebden (pictured) was a member of the band Steve Reid, which had made two volumes with only three songs. All three volumes have one thing in common: there are no lyrics; it is all just beats.
These pieces of music were not popular back then due to the time era. Rap and gang violence were popular at that time When studios heard the songs, they hated them because they were not part of the trending style of music (rap and gang violence), so they thought it wouldn't make them any money. Therefore, Steve Reid released it as their own. It didn't do well back then, but someone heard it and understood the purpose of beats.
The beats showed what the artist felt. This art form didn't need lyrics; its beats were the lyrics.
Now let's go to 2018, where an artist named lllllllllllllllll uses the same art style. However, one problem is telling people of this era how the beats will sound. By the title of the songs. For example, “She said; ?!” . With this title, you can tell that the beat will be slow and smooth. The difference, though, is that all songs are played in a way that matches one another; they tell the listener how the artist feels or felt at a time in their life. That’s why so many of the songs are released in different years. Lastly, I want to mention the artist I discussed: Beigan, or . .. .... ... They are the most popular artists of this art form. They use Morse Code as their name and their song names. All songs are the same as the others. But this musical group found a way to make this art form popular by making beats that somehow people found intense. They, the people, absolutely loved it. Over 50k views on Spotify as their monthly views and over 1 million in total views...
Beigan is not just one guy. It is a band; a hidden group that works on an unknown artist's album called The Erased Tapes. As far as I know, it is unknown who made this album.
This art form is a rabbit hole. After hearing one song from any of these artists, you start to find more artists. Many artists follow this form and make their beats. It is not hard for people to make beats of their own this art form is something everyone can do. This art form allows for a way to make beats about how someone feels without making a whole song with lyrics and all the other stuff
una forma de arte que nadie conoce
por Derek VM

Next get the pan your going to use with and turn on the fire onto medium and add butter or oil if your using butter add half a spoon, if your using oil just two spoonfuls
3. Next put the bread on the pan now grab an egg and crack the egg in the hole that you cut earlier 4.
Flip the toast when your egg has cook by the way it's not going to be easy the first few times but you are going to get the hang of it 5. Now that you got through the hard part now something easier, get the bread that you put aside earlier 6.
7. Next grab your nutella and a spoon and take a spoonful of nutella and put it in the middle of one of the slices and put it on top of the other one with nutella

Sudoku
ReviewwrittenbyCandyGirlTecaTimesstaffSudoku is a puzzle game which was originally made in Japan by Maki Kaji in 1979. It was created for children so adults wouldn’t think it is hard. The purpose of this game is to fill a 9x9 grid so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3x3 boxes contain a digit from 1-9 only one time. Did you know that the name Sudoku in Japanese means “the numbers/digits must remain single.”
How to Play Sudoku:
You will start with a big 9x9 square, composed of nine 3x3 squares, which must be filled in with numbers from 1-9. Each number can be in a row, column, and 3x3 square only once. Here’s a diagram to understand it:

The diagram shows a 9x9 grid. If you look inside the oval, there are numbers that are occupying spaces. In the non-occupied spaces you can put any number, but cannot repeat numbers that are already used (for example, in the oval, 1, 5, and 6 are not used yet) You also need to check horizontally to see if the number that you were thinking about putting has already been used in that direction. Here’s a tip: when you’re checking numbers, make sure to check horizontally, vertically, and in the 3x3 squares. That’s all! I hope you loved learning about the puzzle, see you next time!

Out of The Blue: S.O.S HELP ME
*Out of The Blue will explain to you in full detail about something completely random!
By Oscar, TECA Times StaffToday we travel North from Australia and the mysterious Somerton Park area. We go into yet another mysterious region; the Asahidake Mountain located in Hokkaido, an island in Japan
On the 24th of July in the year 1989, a rescue helicopter scouts over Asahidake Mountain in search of two presumably lost mountaineers They come from Tokyo, and ever since their departure from the great city, they have not returned Contacts of both hikers have not heard from them, as well These two facts lead the Hokkaido police to believe that the two mountaineers are perhaps lost
Therefore, rescue operators board a helicopter to search across the Asahidake Mountain in hopes of spotting and rescuing the lost mountaineers
Miraculously, the rescue team is able to successfully retrieve the lost hikers. Their great survival skills were able to aid the rescue crew in finding them In fact, as the helicopter lowers onto the ground to rescue the two lost men, the crew greets and compliments both of the hikers on their amazing survival techniques
The rescue team told the two men:
“I mean, it is impressive of you to build that huge S O S sign so that we could easily spot you!”

The happiness expressed on both of the hikers’ faces is quickly replaced with confusion Both of them have been delirious, and thus forgetful, over the past few days This was due to an absence of food and water And although it may be possible that they had created the S O S sign that the rescue team had mentioned, they had no record of them ever building it But maybe they forgot because of the delirium As both mountaineers recovered, their memory did as well And, they remembered, in fact, no, they had not built an S.O.S sign. What was the rescue crew even talking about?
The ones with confused faces were now the entire rescue team The helicopter navigated over to a huge S O S sign that was on the ground, at just a couple distance below where the two mountaineers were recovered

“Did you not make that?”
No, they hadn’t
Detectives went over the four cassette tapes and the tape recorder The first cassette, when played, was a song from a Japanese anime The second cassette was played, and it was also a song from the same anime. So far, nothing that could help the detectives in their investigation. The other two tapes were played, but they were also songs from the anime.
There was only the tape recorder left When played, a startling audio was heard An anxious, desperate man was begging to be rescued, saved He yelled:
“SOS, help me, I can't move on the cliff, SOS, help me The place is where I first met the helicopter The sasa is deep and you can't go up Lift me up from here ”
After listening to the recording, the investigators were filled with confusion instead of surprise The bones found were that of a woman, this voice was that of a man Was there someone else over at the S O S sign’s site? That someone would be this unknown man The skeletal remains that were found could be from a hiker buddy that the unknown man had. But something happened to them and now they were deceased.
The moon and darkness were rising, so the rescue team had to return back to base The rescuers went on to deliver the two survivors back to Japan Tomorrow the crew of rescuers would return at the site of the S O S sign The two survivors denied that they were the builders of that sign And if so, then someone else had built it Perhaps they still needed rescue
Lost Person(s)
When it became morning of the next day, the crew rushed back to the helicopter The helicopter began to lower directly to the side of the S O S sign Fortunately, the sign had been created on a field, so the helicopter could land safely
Through a megaphone, the crew began yelling If there really was a lost hiker or mountaineer, then they should be able to hear the rescue team’s yells However, there was no response No one came into sight Thinking that maybe the lost person might be stuck or in trouble, the crew boarded off the helicopter and began searching the area Which led to the discovery of bones.
Several human bones were found next to the S.O.S sign. The crew was shocked at the sight. They continued scouting the area, and they only found more bones What’s worse is that these newly found bones were fractured by what seemed to be animal bites Others were broken, possibly a result from a fall or collision with an object in the forest
A dead person can’t fall from a great height Their corpse could’ve been pushed by the wind, but this area was flat and plain This environment couldn’t allow for a fall or collision that could fracture a bone, which led the rescue team to believe that the dead person had fractured their bones while alive
These gruesome discoveries were enough to make the rescue crew retrieve. They departed from the location and asked for professional help from detectives and authorities, who arrived the same day at the scene
Multiple significant items were uncovered by the police Near the S O S sign, a backpack was found Also near the sign, a human skull was discovered. All the bones were collected and taken to a lab, where the police hoped that the bones could be inspected. If successful, after the inspection, the detectives should be able to know if those bones belonged to a male or female
As for the backpack, much more important discoveries were made inside it Four cassette tapes were found, with a tape recorder as well However, the most important item found inside the backpack was a driver’s license The name Kenji Iwamura could be seen printed on it
Inspection of Items
There were other items inside the backpack (such as toothpaste, shorts, and soap), but those were not significant in this case
The bone inspection at the lab was finishing up Once the inspection was complete, the detectives were delivered with the news that the bones belonged to a female; precisely, a woman with blood type 0
Another helicopter was dispatched to fly once again back to the area of the S O S sign A more thorough search would be conducted to find this man Or, at least, his corpse Maybe even skeleton, if he was in the same state as his female companion.
As the detectives scouted the terrain, they came across the sasa that the man had mentioned. Sasa is a type of bamboo. Here at the site of the S O S sign, which is a flat piece of land, the bamboo grows to multiple sides of the land The sides of the land are sloped hills, so the bamboo grows on those hills Combined with the steep slope of the hills and the growing bamboo plants, it is incredibly difficult to climb up, which is what the man was mentioning
The detectives also inspected the S O S sign itself It seemed old, some signs of deterioration present This meant the sign had been here for a while
Knowing since when would be helpful, but there were few ways to do that.
One of the few ways involved aerial photographs. The Japanese Forestry Service took aerial pictures of forests every 5 years (they take top-down pictures from a helicopter) Fortunately, the S O S sign was situated in a forest, so perhaps they could find it using aerial photographs
Unfortunately, the last time the Japanese Forestry Service had taken pictures was in 1987, two years ago The sign would have probably not been built at that time. Regardless, the detectives decided to search the aerial photos archive, and their search was fruitful The S O S sign was present in one of the pictures taken in 1987, which meant it was at least two years of age Therefore, the lost man would, unfortunately, likely be dead Along with their female partner
Or maybe the lost man and the female partner were actually the same person,
Reinspection
The team of detectives continued to scout the area around the S O S sign There were no remaining clues at the scene
The man could have perhaps survived, or he had moved to a different area in search of aid. Although this theory was unlikely, since the terrain surrounding the S.O.S sign was difficult to move through.
A reinspection of the human bones was being made at the same time the detectives were scouting the area This time, the team at the lab came with different results; the bones were actually that of a male, a man with blood type A.
This made more sense. The team of detectives went on to search for family members of Kenji Iwamura, and located his parents
They shared that Kenji was an office worker The office had reached out to them a long, long time ago, informing them that Kenji had not shown up to work for over a week Kenji’s parents tried contacting him, because he no longer lived with them, but they unfortunately couldn’t. Kenji was too distant and he did not have a phone However, upon being shown the backpack that was found at the S O S sign, the parents informed the police that, yes, the backpack belonged to Kenji And of course, the driver’s license was also that of Kenji’s The tape recorder was played, and the yells of the desperate man were let out once again. It had been a long time since the parents had last seen Kenji, so they had forgotten, and thus they were unsure if the voice was Kenji or not
Also, it is unknown if Kenji may have been debilitated or weak when he recorded his voice If so, his voice might sound unfamiliar to those who had heard his voice before. Combined with the tremor that could be heard, Kenji’s voice could have sounded completely different.
Mount Asahidake
It is also unknown how Kenji even ended up at the site of the S O S sign, but there are multiple factors that we must take into account to form theories
The following pictures could help create a theory.

First, let’s climb to the top of Mt. Asahidake. Here are two landmarks; Fake Safe Rock, and Safe Rock This is a picture of either Fake Safe Rock or Safe Rock it’s hard to tell in between both since they look incredibly similar And if you mistake one with another, you can end up like Kenji
Upon completing your hike and getting to the summit of Mt. Asahidake, you will find yourself on a ridge To descend back down safely, you want to look for Safe Rock Near it is a pathway that can take you down However, if you mistake Fake Safe Rock with Safe Rock and descend near the location of Fake Safe Rock, you will find yourself in a difficult situation.

On Google Maps, you can find the S O S sign marked It’s at the bottom of the previous image. The summit of Asahidake is also marked on the map, near the top of this image. If you descend near Fake Safe Rock, you will climb down in the direction of the S O S sign marker Therefore, it is likely that Kenji unfortunately mistook Safe Rock with Fake Safe Rock and descended down Somewhere along his descent he may have fallen or somehow lost a lot of elevation. If he fell, perhaps that’s how he fractured a bone.

The gray parts in the image above represent steep slopes Notice how they surround the S O S sign area If Kenji falls, he is not getting back up Unfortunately he did, and when he was recording his voice, that’s likely what he meant with “…the sasa is deep and you can't go up. ” Also keep in mind how the bamboo plant grows all around this area. This adds yet another obstruction in climbing upwards
With all of this information, the detectives were able to theorize that, first, Kenji mistook Safe Rock with Fake Safe Rock. He descended down near Fake Safe Rock, and lost a lot of altitude somehow, perhaps because of a fall And because of the fall, he may have fractured a bone, but most importantly, he could no longer get back up Now he is stuck, since he can’t go up The only option now is going down, and so he goes down, ending up at the S.O.S sign’s site. There he unfortunately dies, and his corpse is left to decompose in solitary.
