Prologue:

The Younger Family in a dingy southside Chicago tenement; Struggling each month to make the rent. All with dreams of moving up and out; If they all work hard, this will come true no doubt. Daddy has passed and left them 10 grand. Walter wants to lead and be the man. Beneatha wants to be a doctor and heal Mamma, Ruth and Travis want a home that’s real. The money is in Mama’s name But Walter made plans for it just the same. He aims to open a liquor store, But Mama hates this idea to the core. She puts a down payment on a white man’s house Walter just sits around and grouse. Mama gives up the rest of the cash to Walter Because her faith in him did not falter. Walter makes an “investment” and it failed It seems the family’s hopes have sailed. Linder comes in and it looks like ideal It will only cost them their pride; it’s a steal. Walter steps up and says his family can’t be bought It is a lesson well learned, it could not be taught.
