Mermaids edge out Pirates Beaches whip in dress rehearsals to final Quality Kings IN a dress rehearsal to this Sunday’s (June 2) Captain Marvin’s Women’s Beach Soccer League’s final, defending champions the Pink Mermaids edged out rivals the Purple Pirates. The game which was played last weekend finished 5-4. The Mermaids held an early advantage before they were pulled back by the Pirates. They were 4-2 up after the opening period before the Pirates levelled matters at 4-4 at the start of the final period. The game was a great example of competitive

football as both teams gave their all to secure a confidence boosting victory. Sarah Cenary scored all four goals for the Pirates whereas Kadine Delphin (3), Guerline Hall and Yarileny De La Cruz ensured that the Mermaids hold the bragging rights for the time being. The Blue Marlins, who are set to play the Great White Sharks for the third place spot, also claimed a moral 4-2 victory. An own goal, two strikes from Rosemaine and a Patrice Senior

effort saw the Marlins overcome the Sharks who had goals scored from Simone Smith and Lilli Fenelus. Technical Director Matthew Green was excited about the final week of games. “We have had a great season so far. The sport has become very popular and the girls are playing some very attractive and skillful soccer on the sand. It will be hard to pick a winner for next week’s final as both the Mermaids and the Pirates have many talented players”.

DEFENDING Twenty20 champions Beaches made light work of the Quality Kings in the latest clash of the HAB Group Senior Men’s T20 Cricket Competition at the Downtown Ball Park. Beaches won the toss and inserted the Kings to take first strike. With consistent scores from experienced players Jeremy Jones (37* 6X4s) and Errion Charles (34 1x4, 3x6s) the Kings were able to reach 154-5 from their allotted

overs. Ebbon Caesar added 27 (5X4s). In reply Beaches raced to the needed total in 15.2 overs with seven wickets to spare. Damian St. Ange, who was outstanding in the last final against Police, scored a half century. He clobbered five fours and two sixes. Sidu Hunter added 52 unbeaten runs (7X4s and 2X6s). Jones was the pick of the bowlers with 2-31 from three overs.

Josh for Sports

Without vision the people perish – Judith Robinson has vision I CALL a space a spade. I have no bias in my heart and mind, and no preference or perception as it relates to the truth. It matters not to me what others may think when it comes to recognising the truth. For the truth will liberate you or condemn you. Yet the truth unlocks your full potentials to advance. For, where there are pitfalls there can be repaired and then there can be progress. The fact of the matter is that Judith Robinson the Acting Sports Director (I honestly don’t know

By Joshua Gardiner why she has not been confirmed) has been the most effective sports administrator in the history of this country. Yet her full potentials have not

been realised. She has been undermined by persons around her with inferior qualities. I’m personally calling on the government to give her full authority to dictate a cleansing and weeding out of the national ‘stagnators’ that surrounds her and then you will see the astonishing success that will be comparable to that realise by other regional countries. Basically the government needs to listen to experts (native) who have vision and know the way forward. One of the few persons that I see is Judith Robinson. There are others who are of equal vision/value, but they have not been committed to sports all their lives in the way that

she has been. A LITTLE ABOUT HER · Judith has been actively involved in competitive sports all her life. · She was a Physical Education teacher · She created national sporting teams · She represented the TCI all her adult life in diverse international sports up to and including the world championships · She possesses some of the highest levels of qualifications from various international/ World governing sporting bodies (softball and athletics) as official, coach and lecturer. · She possesses the love, commitment and vision to promote

us to world recognised levels and respect in the majority of sport played in the TCI. ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS It was Ms. Robinson who is responsible for the little progress that has been made in the school system. She knows what it takes to get things done. RECOMMENDATIONS I recommend that the government make her a so call Jr. Minister or assistant Minister of Sports with direct responsibility for national sports. Give her a full staff as it is necessary, and pay her accordingly.
