TURKS AND CAICOS WEEKLY NEWS
TURKS & CAICOS SOTHEBYâS INTERNATIONAL REALTY PROVO RYDER CUP:
North America golfers record comfortable win After four years of dominance, the International Team relinquished control of the Provo Ryder Cup. The event, sponsored by Turks & Caicos Sothebyâs International Realty, witnessed some quality golf en route to an impressive North American victory (24.5 to 17.5). In the two-day event, two weekends ago, 48 golfers
competing head-to-head in the popular match play format. The win narrowed the International Teamâs impressive historic lead to 16 vs. 8 as it ended the multipleyear jinx that team North America seemed burdened by; in fact it was only the second North American win over the last 11 years. Fraser Dods and Todd Foss
The North American golfers defeated the International team by seven points.
captained North America, who started with a solid 7 to 5 first day lead in the Saturday
best ball format. International captains Grant Noble and Dale Hodgkins rallied their team for Sundayâs singles play as their side came out early with excellent results in the first six ladies matches before ultimately falling to the North American men by 12.5 to 5.5 in the last 18 matches of the Cup. This year the Provo Ryder Cup enjoyed some of the best golf witnessed in the 24-year history of the matches. The weather finally co-operated after heavy rain earlier in the week and the course rebounded under the guidance of Superintendent
Tim Mack to provide the players with great conditions for the weekend challenge. All four captains did a tremendous job creating a competitive, but fun tournament atmosphere by making âthe spirit of the gameâ top priority. The Provo Ryder Cup is eagerly anticipated each year and again kicked off with a lively Wednesday pairings party where the captains arranged the stage for all 36 matches. Other highlights included the fact that there were five first time Ryder Cup golfers, two of which (Mike Kenney and Josh Germain) dominated
their opponents. Also notable was 13-year-old Augustina Rebolledo and 11-year-old Brooke Rivers who both won their singles match on Sunday. Although a true team event it should be noted that the following nine players captured a perfect two points by winning both their matches; Christine Dickenson, Tammy Glugosh, Carol Brown, Ty Nagthall, Josh Germain, Mike Kenney, Jim Gefucia, Terry Erskine, and Gregg Rivers. Terry Erskine in fact has won all four of his matches over the last two years.
