CANOEING & CAMPING WEEKEND Brazos River, Palo Pinto County, TX Date: November 1-2 Registration Deadline: October 30 Cost: $65 | $80

Join us on this two-day, one-night canoeing and camping trip along the banks of the Brazos River! Known for its clear water, towering bluffs, and abundant wildlife, the Brazos River is a perfect place to let your everyday stresses float away. Located just 70 miles from campus, come experience the best of what’s around!

FULL MOON PADDLE

West Fork of the Trinity River, Fort Worth, TX Dates: September 8 (6 - 10 pm) October 8 (6 - 10 pm) November 5 (5 - 9 pm) Cost: $20 | $25 Includes: transportation, canoes/kayaks, paddling gear and trip leaders Experience the full moon as we paddle canoes and kayaks down the Trinity River. The downtown skyline is beautiful to view from the river at night. This is a great way to experience what the Trinity has to offer: your own quiet, peaceful river right here in Fort Worth. Register early – these trips fill up fast!

Known for its immense beauty, powerful landscapes, and breathtaking views, Grand Canyon National Park is one of America’s finest locations for wilderness experiences. Over the course of 5 days and 4 nights, we will backpack down, in, out and up the one-mile deep canyon, crossing the mighty Colorado River and viewing geological formations aged millions of years. ROCK CLIMBING DAY TRIP

Make the most of your Fall Break by exploring two National Parks in one trip. This trip has it all; from summiting Guadalupe Peak in Guadalupe National Park, to exploring the depths of the earth at Carlsbad Caverns National Park, and some fun camping throughout.

BACKPACKING WEEKEND Ouachita National Forest, OK

Journey with us for a weekend of backpacking in Ouachita National Forest to witness its amazing fall color changes! The Ouachita National Forest spans over one million acres throughout Oklahoma and Arkansas and is filled with burbling streams, beautiful trees, and scenic vistas. On this trip, we will hike a portion of the 192-mile Ouachita National Recreational Trail.


THE TCU CLIMBING WALL

is sure to provide you with an exciting outlet, whether you are entirely new to climbing, have been climbing for years or are just looking for a challenging addition to your workout regimen! We offer instruction and supervision on our 30 foot wall, with over 20 top–rope routes, and a variety of bouldering routes. We work hard to provide ever–changing routes that range from 5.5—5.12, for both the beginner and the advanced alike. The wall is open to all students, faculty and members of the TCU Recreation Center. All climbing equipment including shoes, harnesses, ATC’s and carabiners are available at the wall for FREE!

CLIMBING 101

New to climbing or interested in brushing up on your skills? This is the class for you! Learn about basic climbing movements, how to read routes, tie knots and secure your harness. Two classes will be held at the beginning of the semester; however, you can request a class by appointment anytime during the semester.

BELAY CLASS

This class teaches the fundamentals of using personal protective equipment while a climber is on a top-rope belay. Class curriculum covers belay mechanics and technique, best practices in climbing, effective communication, and knot-tying in detail. Participants will get hands-on belay experience through practice and simulation before moving onto belaying fellow classmates in a supervised environment.

BELAY SKILLS CHECK

This must be taken annually if you plan to belay at the Climbing Wall and can be taken anytime the Climbing Wall is open. This is designed for experienced climbers with knowledge of the fundamentals of indoor climbing. Participants must demonstrate the proper belay commands. Walk-ins are welcome!

LADIES NIGHT

Join us for our monthly Ladies Night and climb in a friendly, female-only environment. Enjoy snacks, music, and good company. All skill levels welcome! The Outdoor Center is the one-stop-shop for all your camping needs. Tents, sleeping bags, backpacks...you name it, we’ve got it! We also have a line of canoes and kayaks available for rent. Come get yours today and hit the river! The Outdoor Center also serves as a resource for accessing information about amazing recreation opportunities right here in Texas, so you can experience the best of what’s around. Come pick up a free Texas State Parks Guide or Trinity Trails Map, chat with our staff about trip planning and preparation, and get advice for your next outing.
