Cartright Announces Candidacy for State Senate BY KYLE BARR KYLE@TBRNEWSMEDIA.COM Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Valerie Cartright (D-Port Jefferson Station) has joined the current slate of Democratic contenders for the state Senate District 1 seat after longtime Sen. Ken LaValle (R-Port Jefferson) announced he would not run for reelection in October. “My experience as an attorney, town elected official, and constant advocate for community involvement in government uniquely positions me to effectively deliver for the residents of the First Senatorial District,” Cartright, 43, said in
