A Parent’s Prayer for Summer Camp

A prayer for my children/child going to summer camp...

May you find learning and growth of all kinds.

May you gain independence and feel comfort in your Jewish identity

May the mosquitoes be guided away from you, and may the raindrops not fall into your tent (too much)

May the food be delicious and the pool the right temperature

May you seek out new experiences and try new things (vegetables would be nice but I m doubtful)

May you smile brilliantly for the camp photographer and show up daily in the online photo albums.

May you avoid the camp crud and may you never lose your socks.

May you take a shower and brush your teeth every day.

May you not send wet towels to the laundry, because the laundry is charged by weight.

May your arrows fly straight, your fishing line never get tangled, and your tetherball not whack you in the nose.

May you not fall off the top bunk.

May you not spend your whole canteen account on silly junk.

May you not lose your hat and water bottle in the first week.

May you not lose your way in the night to the outdoor bathroom.

May you write me at least one letter besides the mandatory first-dayletter.

May you create a life-long friendship (at least one, if not many).

May you renew old friendships, since they are the most precious. (Are 9 year olds allowed to have "old friends"?)

May you learn more and more about yourself and your spirit and being

May you return home in one piece with all your belongings, and may you ever yearn to return to the land of summer camp

Tefilat Haderech

May we be blessed as we go on our way

May we be guided in peace

May we be blessed with health and joy

May this be our blessing, amen.

May we be sheltered by wings of peace

A census of the Gershonites, Merarites, and Koathites between the ages of thirty and fifty is conducted and their duties in the Tabernacle are detailed. (4:21-49)

God speaks to Moses concerning what to do with ritually unclean people, repentant individuals, and those who are suspected of adultery. (5:1-31)

The obligations of a nazirite vow are explained They include abstaining from alcohol and not cutting one ' s hair. (6:1-21)

God tells Moses how to teach Aaron and his sons the Priestly Blessing. (6:22-27)

Moses consecrates the Sanctuary, and the tribal chieftains bring offerings. Moses then speaks with God inside the Tent of Meeting. (7:189)

Relax! God put the wiggle in children. Don’t feel you have to suppress it in our sanctuary or chapel.

Sit towards the front where it is easier for your little ones to see and hear what is happening on the Bima. They tire of seeing the backs of other’s heads.

May we be kept in safety and in love

May grace and compassion find their way to every heart

May this be our blessing, amen.

Amen, may this be our blessing, amen.

Located in St Petersburg on Floridas beautiful west coast, Temple Beth-El is a Reform Jewish congregation that has served this area since 1928 and is focused on strengthening relationships and making connections. Quietly explain our rituals and sing or clap when appropriate. Children learn liturgical behavior by copying you.

If you need to leave services with your child, do so, but please come back. Remember that the way we welcome children in synagogue directly affects the way they respond to coming to synagogue, to God, to one another. Let them know that they are welcome in this house of worship, here, at Temple Beth-El.
