by Mary Lee Bendolph called “Strips and Stars” included starting with recreation pieces, improvising to make the design closer to an original with inspiration, and finishing by building abstract models to represent the art piece. Through the makings of things like a woven design, a low relief model, and numerous study models, the final design was constructed and then drawn in sections, an elevation, floor plan, and a perspective.
To understand how light reacts to different angles and positions, the assignment was to design a light vessel that could be photographed in numerous ways. Qualities I chose to represent included glowing, luminous, atmmospheric, and mysterious.
The site altered on UDM’s McNichols Campus is located between the Library and Architecture buildings and was converted into a collaborative biophilic setting. With the addition of a willow tree, valley, individual study spaces, and native plantings the site was able to be transformed to have a use. A site analysis was conducted followed by architectural drawings and perspectives.
The pavilion design was a continuation of the courtyard and was directed to have a pavilion added. featuring a large bioswale in the middle of the valley, a pavilion was affixed to the side where it could be utilized by one of the numerous clubs on campus or enjoyed by the community for various activities.
