Second round of public consultations take place

Autumn festival preparations underway WANTAGE Autumn Festival is returning for 2013 on October 20, featuring a variety of entertainment throughout the afternoon at King Alfred’s East Site, Springfield Road.

RESIDENTS of Wantage and Grove have had the chance to check out revised plans for a major housing scheme in the area. Developer Land Improvement Holdings (LIH) held meetings a the Old Mill Hall in Grove last Thursday, and Wantage Civic Hall last night. The consultations relate to the planned construction of 1,500 homes on the Crab Hill site in the north east of Wantage. Concerns were previously raised at the fi rst round of public consultations in April about the size of the development, the loss of agricultural land and that there are not sufficient jobs in ther the a area. Julie Mabberley, leader of Wantage and Grove Campaign Group, said this week’s exhibitions did not show much change in addressing residents’ worries. “The feedback to me last night was still that the scheme was too large and inappropriate to a town the size of Wantage,” she said. “There were also concerns about the height of the development and the layout of the site in relation to existing houses. “LIH state that there has been limited change to the design proposals but that this is only the outline application and detailed layouts will come later.” Fiona Roper, Mayor of Wantage, agreed that the design and layout of the London-based • Continued on Page 3
