FOUR CHARGED IN HEROIN BUST
Quartet to appear in court in two weeks on drugs offences after police investigation DETECTIVES in Basingstoke have charged four people with heroin-related offences after an investigation into illegal drugs. Two people from Basingstoke - a 48-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman - have both been charged with being concerned in the supply of heroin. They have both been released on bail, and will appear at Winchester Crown Court on January 16.

A 20-year-old man and a 16-yearold boy, both from London, have been charged with the same offence. As the Observer went to press, the man was remanded in custody by Basingstoke Magistrates, and the boy was taken into the care of
the local authority. They will also appear at Winchester Crown Court on the same date. The investigations are in relation to a drive dedicated to stamping out drug-related violence, entitled Operation Fortress. One of the primary aims of the operation is restricting the supply of class A drugs. And police in Basingstoke are keen to hear from anybody who

They are also urging the public to remain on the lookout for any suspicious signs that might point to drug-related activity in their communities. Things to look out for include a sudden increase in visitors to a property, with people only staying for a short space of time, and people loitering around a specific area, using their mobile phones

Short exchanges between small groups of people near a property can also be suspicious, as can people leaving a house or flat several times a day, returning a short time later on each occasion. Police are also wary of new-looking or hire cars parked outside a house they would not normally be, being driven by somebody you may not associate with that style of car.
