SOUTH and Vale area commander Supt Andy Boyd says the force is not underestimating the challenges of improving upon success year after year. Between April 1, 2013, and March 31, this year, crime in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse has dropped by 0.2 per cent. The decrease builds upon a 38 per cent reduction in the last 10 years, while crime has never been lower, according to neve reco recorded data, in the South and Vale Vale. As the second best performing Local Police Area in the Thames Loc Valley, South and Vale has seen a six per cent reduction in dwelling burglaries, 37 per cent detection rate in rape and 61.3 per cent outcome rate in violence against the person with injury. Supt Boyd (pictured) said: “Whilst we are extremely proud of these achievements, we do not underestimate the challenges of maintaining these levels of performance.

“We are committed to striving to further reduce crime. “The simple facts are that you are less likely to be a victim of crime in South Oxfordshire or the Vale of White Horse than almost anywhere else in the country. “Also, if somebody commits a crime within our district they are far more likely to be caught.” Supt Boyd added that dwelling burglaries will remain a priority, with 20 per cent of this year’s
offences occurring in Henley town centre. “This is a crime that can have a devastating impact on victims,” said Supt Boyd. “Whilst we are proud to have reduced this crime by 60 per cent in the last 10 years, we are determined to reduce it still further.” Other priorities will be tackling violence and rural crime, the latter of which has seen a 25 per cent reduction in the last year. Neighbourhood Watch Schemes and community messaging across the districts will also be continuously developed. Supt Boyd continued: “As I regularly point out, we have not reduced crime on our own. “I am extremely grateful for the continuing help and support from both the district councils, the Community Safety Partnership and all those volunteers who support us through the Special Constabulary, Neighbourhood Watch and the Neighbourhood Action Groups.”
