Help garden town to grow and have your say on plan By George Welch BUSINESSES and community group leaders are being invited to share their thoughts and ideas on the future of Didcot Garden Town as residents are offered a more hands on approach in shaping the project. People will soon be able to join a cluster of different working groups that will be created by the Didcot Garden Town Board. The project, organised by the South and Vale district councils, includes Didcot accommodating 16,000 more homes and 20,000 new jobs over the next two decades. Each working group will cover different sectors such as environment, leisure and culture, science and innovation and education and health. Gerry Brough, SODC’s interim head of development and regeneration, said: “We want people who live and work in Didcot and the surrounding villages to help the Didcot Garden Town Board plan for things that go with new housing – roads and cycle paths, schools, leisure and health centres, community centres and shops while making sure we develop accessible and new open spaces for all ages to use and enjoy.” One group that expects to be actively involved in the project’s governance is the Didcot Ladygrove Residents’

Association, which, although still in the process of being set up, will be formed for general purposes. Melissa Mallows, from the group, said the purpose of the association is to “voice our preferences and objections regarding developments that will affect Ladygrove”. The mum-of-two Ladygrove resident said the group takes inspiration from the Henley Residents’ Association, which “is proudly independent of party political influence and interference”. The group has received the backing of Ladygrove town councillor Simon Hewerdine. He said: “A residents’ association could become a local hub for liaising directly with the different agencies while giving residents a collective voice that cuts across all levels of local government.” Find out more about how to join the working groups by registering to attend a presentation on November 21. The event will have two sessions: midday to 2pm and 6.30pm to 8.30pm. There will also be a drop-in display on the board and governance structure available for everyone from 2.30pm to 5.30pm on the same day. To register your interest in attending one of the sessions or to join one or more working group by the November 14 deadline, email info@ didcotgardentown.co.uk.

Pyromusical magic Didcot’s biggest ever pyromusical display took place over the weekend to celebrate an unforgettable bonfire night. The event on Sunday dazzled spectators with fireworks that were perfectly choreographed to a musical soundtrack at Didcot Town FC. Children and families also enjoyed a funfair, bouncy castles, stalls with food and drink, sparklers and glow sticks.
