MP asks for consultation to stop after two experts stand down
RESIGNATIONS MAY HALT HEALTH PLANS INDUSTRY experts and an Oxfordshire MP have spelled out their concern for the timing of plans to transform health services across Oxfordshire. The two-phased Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) has been put into question after the chief executive and chairman of the organisation responsible for the county’s health services said they planned to step down. Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (OCCG) chief executive David Smith will retire in December and chairman Dr Joe McManners has decided not to seek re-election to the post in February. He will step down when his successor is appointed. Banbury MP Victoria Prentis used her fi rst speech of the new parliament to call for the health transformation consultation to be “halted” and started again. She said: “I am concerned that the architects of the transformation process will be disappearing halfway through it. “I really beg them to stop the consultation process at this point and start again — regroup.” It comes after the results from phase one of OCCG’s major consultation to downgrade maternity services at Banbury’s Horton Hospital was almost “universally rejected”.
