NURSE ASSAULTED FESTIVAL GOERS Court hears of Wilderness Festival volunteer’s sex crimes A NURSE sexually assaulted two passed out women in the medical tent of the Wilderness Festival in Cornbury Park, near Charlbury, Oxford Crown Court heard on Monday. Andrew Hutchinson, 29, of Garford near Abingdon, pleaded guilty at Oxford Crown Court on Monday morning to a list of 27 charges against 29 different women and girls – 18 of whom police are unable to identify from the evidence. As well as the sexual assaults at the Wilderness Festival in 2013, Hutchinson also admitted raping two unconscious women in the A&E department of Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital. The two patients – aged 18 and 35 – did not realise they had been attacked until police told them. The crimes were committed at the hospital, Wilderness Festival, Abingdon’s White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre, and an address near Abingdon. The extent of his crimes was

only uncovered when a victim told police of being watched at Abingdon’s leisure centre. Officers arrested him on suspicion of voyeurism in November 2013 and seized his camera, mobile phone, memory stick and computer equipment – which revealed the extra offences. Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Johns of Thames Valley Police CID said: “I am pleased Hutchinson has pleaded guilty to his offences and spared his victims having to endure a trial to receive justice. “This has been a complicated and unusual case as the victims of his sex offences were not aware that offences took place because they were not conscious.” Hutchinson, dressed in a grey suit, appeared calm as he

repeatedly said ‘guilty’ to each charge as it was read out. He was remanded in custody after the 30-minute hearing and is due to be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on April 27. He was fi rst charged on December 5, 2014, before being charged with further offences on January 30 this year. Hutchinson admitted one count of voyeurism and one count of outraging public decency at the hospital in March 2012 and July 2012 respectively. As well as 11 more charges of voyeurism – mostly at Abingdon’s leisure centre between January 2013 and December 2014. One voyeurism victim was 10 years old – and 18 could not be identified. In August 2013, Hutchinson sexually assaulted two unconcious women aged 21 and 24 at the Wilderness Festival at Cornbury Park while he was volunteering there as a nurse. • Continued on page 3 • Andrew Hutchinson pleaded guilty to 27 charges at Oxford Crown Court on Monday
