BMW reveals electric version of Mini will be built at Cowley

George Welch: Reporter THE decision to build the Mini E at Cowley confi rms the strong role the plant plays in the city’s economy, according to the city council leader. German car manufacturer BMW said the Cowley plant would be the main “production location” for the new battery-electric three-door hatch, which will be a variant of the brand’s
current 3-door model. BMW bosses announced on Tuesday that the electric motors and batteries for the Mini E would be made at plants in Germany and shipped to Cowley for assembly. Production at the east Oxford plant is expected to start in 2019 – after the UK leaves the EU. The move will have limited impact on the Cowley production line because the assembly of the vehicle will be
