TRAMS PLAN IS STILL A GOER LONGSTANDING plans such as linking Oxford and Witney with a tram service have not been overlooked despite a faster £38 million A40 fix proposed to start in 2017, Oxfordshire’s leader has pledged. Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) leader Ian Hudspeth announced on Tuesday a consultation on proposals to relieve A40 traffic launching on Saturday will include longterm strategies as well as more imminent plans for a new bus lane and a park and ride near Eynsham. ments along the A40 between Witney and Oxford could start in 2017 or 2018 and be fi nished by 2019. The fi rst of four public exhibitions on the plans runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday at the Methodist Church in Witney’s High Street. Cllr Hudspeth said: “The longer term solution for the A40 corridor will require ambition and creativity. “We want to hear from local people once more about what
form that should take. “We need local views on our proposed range of longer-term solutions for the A40 corridor now so that we are ready to bid for future funding opportunities from government as they arise.” In July OCC’s cabinet approved a £38m package of improvements. The new £6m park-and-ride at Eynsham would be built on farmland just off the A40, and the £29m eastbound bus lane provided between the Eynsham roundabout and Duke’s Cut, Wolvercote. • Continues on page 3
