Old Waitrose store flat plan is praised DESIGNS for flats and shops on the site of the old Waitrose store in Wallingford have been praised by town leaders and businesses as ‘brilliant’. The Oxfordshire Guardian revealed last month Wallingfordbased Beechcroft Developments bought the site to build 22 retirement flats and two shops. But designs have since been unveiled and backed by residents bidding to revive the building in St Martin’s Street, which has been derelict for 11 years. A public consultation into the plans was held at the Regal Centre on March 11. Mayor of Wallingford Lynda Atkins told the Guardian: “Everybody at the exhibition thought the plans were brilliant. “They were very well received and it all looked really well thought out. “The plans are really stunning and will defi nitely bring some colour to that end of the town centre.
