County councillors vote firmly against plans to transform medical care
‘NO’ TO NHS CHANGES TO HEALTH SERVICES Eva Astreinidou: Reporter
Morse creator mourned after death in Oxford
COLIN Dexter, who became as much a part of Oxford as the characters he wrote about, has died aged 86. The author of the much-loved Inspector Morse series of books passed away at his home in Banbury Road. His publisher said in a statement on Tuesday: “With immense sadness, MacMillan announces the death of Colin Dexter who died peacefully at his home in Oxford this morning.” The crime fiction writer behind the series starring the famously temperamental detective shot to fame after the publication of his first book – Last Bus to Woodstock – in 1975. Over the following 14 years Mr Dexter wrote a further 12 novels about the crossword fanatic, opera-loving detective that sold in their millions.

OXFORDSHIRE County Councillors have voted overwhelmingly against proposals to transform local health services saying they “strongly object” to the changes. Health transformation plans from the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning group (OCCG) have yet again been put under scrutiny as councillors met to further discuss the NHS consultation that is under way, with 55 votes against the plans, one vote of abstention and no votes against the objections. The county council met the Oxfordshire Joint Health Overview & Scrutiny Committee (HOSC) on Tuesday to further comment on the consultation process and discuss how it is impacting specific areas in the county. Councillor Yvonne Constance, chairman of the committee, said the councillors involved got ‘more and more excited and determined’ to state their objections, focusing specifically on the lack of detail around changes to adult social care. She said HOSC sent a letter on March 13 to the OCCG with recommendations, and there will most likely be another formal letter sent through after Tuesday’s meeting to continue discussions.
