CHRISTMAS came early for residents at a retirement village as they welcomed reindeer and children from a local nursery. Staff at Richmond Witney hosted an afternoon of carols and sleigh rides last week to bring some festive cheer to the home. Two reindeer, Jingle and Bell, joined children from the local nursery, Little Treasures Academy, in a visit to the care home, much to the delight of the residents. Richmond Witney has been hosting weekly visits from the Academy over the last few months, with the children and residents striking up good relationships. Speaking about the visits, Jo Cambrey, head of activities at Richmond Witney, said: “Everyone loved the Christmas event – the residents and the children get along so well, and the reindeer certainly brought some festive cheer. “We’ve been really lucky to form a relationship with Little Treasures Academy. The regular visits have demonstrated the amazing benefits of linking young children with our residents. We have seen the smiles on their faces as the children arrive each week, residents who generally are fairly quiet and reserved have been participating in activities and

Residents and youngsters from Little Treasures Academy enjoyed carols and sleigh rides at Richmond Witney as young and old shared festive spirit going down memory lane to recall their childhood memories through storytelling, singing and participating in activities designed for everyone involved.” Around 30 residents from Richmond Witney attended the Christmas event, along with 20 children from the Academy. During the visit, the residents enjoyed a special performance of

songs from the children’s upcoming Christmas play The Wiggly Nativity before they all spent time meeting the reindeer, singing Christmas carols and enjoying a ride in Santa’s sleigh. The nursery will continue the visits to the village in the new year. Richmond Witney, part of Bupa, was opened by the town’s MP, Robert Courts, earlier this year following a £35million investment.
