Opticians have eye on raising funds for trust A TEAM of staff from an optician in Wantage is appealing to the public’s generosity as they raise money for charity as a tribute to someone close to their hearts. Grove Street Specsavers is pledging to raise £1,000 for the Caring Cancer Trust in memory of Maisie Norton, a 17-year-old Grove resident who lost her fight against kidney disease in October 2015. The store has designed a unique charity bracelet, which will be sold instore for £3 with all proceeds donated to the charity. Store director Nicky Rutter said: “Maisie was the cousin of two of our optical assistants, so this cause is very close to our hearts. We designed these bracelets to honour Maisie and the hard fight that she fought. The
Caring Cancer Trust was her chosen charity, so we want to continue this support in her honour. We’re really hoping our customers and the wider community get behind this brilliant cause and help us reach our £1,000 target.” Wantage Town FC will host the ‘Maisie Norton Memorial Match’, an annual charity event at 11am on May 14. For more information or to buy a bracelet visit Specsavers in Grove Street.
