COUNCIL WINS BATTLE OVER LONDON ROAD REGENERATION Developer’s legal challenge against industrial estate project is dismissed WEST Berkshire Council’s planned redevelopment of the London Road Industrial Estate (LRIE) will go ahead after a legal challenge against the project was thrown out. Last Friday the High Court rejected Faraday Development Limited (FDL)’s appeal that the council’s agreement with rival developer St Modwen aimed at overhauling the industrial estate

By Adam Flinn was “unlawful”. It comes after St Modwen was chosen over FDL for the regeneration project in 2014, even though FDL had been granted outline planning permission for its own ‘Faraday Plaza’ proposals back in 2009. The St Modwen project will see the estate redeveloped to

include housing alongside office and retail space. James Fredrickson, the council’s executive member for corporate services, said: “We are delighted with this outcome. “It is extremely disappointing that FDL chose to bring criticisms against the council that have been found to be ‘wholly untenable’ by the court, which has delayed the regeneration of London Road, to the detriment of West Berkshire as a whole. “The court ruling now allows us to fully recover legal costs from FDL – we owe it to taxpayers to ensure that they do not foot the bill for such a speculative legal challenge. “We will continue to press ahead with our plans to deliver this exciting multi-million pound development for the town.” The court ruled that the council’s decision to award the contract to St Modwen was “rational”, VË Í ÖjÄË Ë¬?~jËÏË
