By Eva Astreinidou A SERIOUS case review into the death of a 14-month-old girl has found there were ‘a number of incidents that should have been treated more seriously’. Oxfordshire Safeguarding Children Board (OSCB) carried out the review after Jasmine Gregory, 24, abandoned her 14-month-old daughter in a bath leaving her to drown. Ms Gregory left her daughter known as Child Q in the bath for 10 minutes when they were living in Kents Row, Grove, near Wantage on August 7, 2014. She had been drinking on the morn-
ing her daughter died in August 2014. Her trial at Oxford Crown Court found Gregory, now of Ulfgar Road, Oxford, guilty of manslaughter. She was sentenced to three years in jail in November last year. The report by the Safeguarding Board examines how well child protection services respond and work with children, as well as how effective agencies are at working with mothers with problems of substance abuse. The baby girl and her five-year old half-sister were both subjects of Child Protection (CP) Plans, under the category of Neglect.
The half-sister, whom Gregory had at the age of 17, was physically harmed as an infant, and her father was convicted of assault. After spending over a year in foster care, and extensive assessments, she was returned to her mother and there was subsequently a 12-month Supervision Order.
