Woman, aged 40, arrested as community shocked by events
Murder probe launched after body of boy found By George Welch A MURDER investigation has been launched after the body of a young boy was discovered in Faringdon. Thames Valley Police officers are questioning a 40-year-old woman from Faringdon, who has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody as we went to press. The force was called to Bromsgrove Cottages at 1.20pm on Tuesday to fi nd the child dead on arrival. Police say the body is that of a young boy of primary school age but have not released further details of what happened. Senior investigating officer, Det Insp Dave Hubbard of the Major Crime Unit, confi rmed a murder investigation has been launched and the family have been informed. LPA Commander for South and Vale of White Horse, Supt Rory Freeman, said: “This is a very shocking discovery and I am aware it may have a very direct impact on the community of Faringdon. “In light of this incident there will be an increased police presence in the area to provide reassurance and we would advise any members of the community affected by this incident to speak to one of the Neighbourhood
Policing Team.” Police are appealing for witnesses and urging anybody with any information to contact the force on 101 quoting reference 730 (14/03). Dozens of tributes have flooded in from residents of the town on the ‘I live in the town of Faringdon’ Facebook page. Karen Draper wrote: “News like this is just devastating to a community and will have a resounding effect for a long time to come. “However, we should all be very proud of our community spirit. All of the well wishers, people paying their respects and people taking food and drinks to the emergency services. “We have many reasons to take great pride in our little town. “I truly believe it is how you come through such tragic circumstances that is what counts. R.I.P little man.” Kathryn Culverwell added: “Saddened by the news that broke last night...rest in peace little one... thoughts are with the family, friends and all services involved.” Veronika Kovacs wrote: “I just don’t know what to tell my children. I can not even imagine how those who are closely affected, family, friends can cope with this. My deepest sympathies, RIP little angel.”
