A BODY pulled from the River Windrush has been confirmed to be that of missing Witney man Derek West. Emergency services were called to the river near Crawley Mill Industrial Estate on Saturday morning after reports that a body had been seen in the water. Mr West was last seen at his home in Meadow Lane, Witney, on November 21. Oxford Coroner’s Court listing confi rmed the identity as 78-year-old Derek West and an inquest into his death is due to open on Thursday December 22. Thames Valley Police force said their “thoughts are with all of his family and friends at this time”. Last month, Mr West’s wife Hilary said it was ‘very out of character’ for him not to say where he was going. In a public appeal made on November 25, she said: “I am so worried and Derek’s friends and family are so worried. We just want to fi nd him.” Searches took place across the Witney area involving the police force’s mounted section and specialist searchers who scoured stretches of the River Windrush. County search volunteers Oxfordshire Lowland Search and Rescue (OxSAR) were also seen out looking for Mr West.
