Offender smashed PC in the face as he was arresting his brother
Violent thug jailed for breaking officer’s jaw By George Welch A MAN has been jailed after he broke a police officer’s jaw in a violent attack on the streets of Oxford. Demitre Clarke-Oliver punched PC Raymond Tse in the face in the early hours of Saturday, October 1, as he was arresting the thug’s brother. The injuries suffered in the assault in Hythe Bridge Street meant PC Tse had to undergo an operation to insert two plates and eight pins to reconstruct his jaw. Despite being injured, PC Tse still assisted in Clarke-Oliver’s arrest. He
has not yet been able to return to duty. Clarke-Oliver, 24, of Kennet Walk, Reading, was given a two-year prison sentence on Thursday last week at Oxford Crown Court. He had previously pleaded guilty on October 3 at Oxford Magistrates’ Court to a Section 20 charge of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH), when the bench referred the case to Crown Court for sentencing. Following the case, Supt Joe Kidman, local policing area commander for Oxford, said: “To attack a police officer is a cowardly and despicable act. “This incident is a sobering reminder
of the risks that our officers willingly take every day and night to keep our city safe.” Following the assault at about 3.15am, Clarke-Oliver was arrested and charged the same day and remanded in custody. At the time of the incident, PC Tse was with two other officers responding to a call from a member of the public. Clarke-Oliver assaulted the officer while he was detaining his brother, causing two fractures to PC Tse’s jaw. He attacked PC Tse from behind without provocation or warning and then ran away. Clarke-Oliver threatened another officer before being
sprayed in his face and arrested. A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “It is to PC Tse’s great credit that despite the serious injury to his jaw he assisted in this arrest.” Speaking after Clarke-Oliver’s sentencing, PC Tse said: “Violence against anyone is never acceptable and, in our role as Thames Valley Police officers, we work very hard to ensure that those who carry out assaults are brought before the courts to face justice. “In this incident, myself and the other officers attending were in the process of VË Í ÖjÄË Ë¬?~jËÏ VË j ÍÁjË ?Á j # ÜjÁËMÁ jË?Ë+ ¾ÄË ?Ý
