NEWBURY MAN IN COURT AFTER WOMAN STABBED Motoring fans get revved up for car show

HUNDREDS of classic cars, motorbikes and military vehicles from across the years were on display at the Classic Vehicle Show at Newbury College on Sunday.

More than 3,500 visitors had a poke around over 850 classic vehicles, with a mix of stalls and entertainment also on offer. See page 5 for full story.

A NEWBURY man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was stabbed and suffered “life threatening injuries” in Inkpen on Thursday. Martin Buckland, 49, of Skyllings, is accused of stabbing a 48-year-old woman at a house in Robins Hill. Police were called to the house at around 2.20pm on Thursday, where they found the woman. She was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with stab wounds to her body. She remains in hospital, and is in a serious but stable condition. Buckland was arrested on the same day as the stabbing, was charged on Friday, and appeared at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Reading Crown Court on Monday. Det Insp Stuart Bosley of Force CID said: “We would like to reassure the public that this was not a random attack.” He added that officers remained on the scene following the stabbing as part of the investigation, and carried out house to house enquiries. Anyone with information about the incident who have not yet contacted police are asked to do so via the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
