Electric cars and solar panels in the pipeline ABINGDON leaders have launched a new working group designed to lower Abingdon Town Council’s emissions as an example to the rest of the town. Suggested plans include installing solar panels on the roof of Abingdon Guildhall and swapping council vehicles with electric replacements. The working group of five town councillors is due to meet for the fi rst time this month. It was set up last month at a town council meeting after town councillors Samantha Bowring and Pat Lonergan

By Alex Ballinger (pictured left) put forward a motion calling for the council to agree ‘it has a responsibility to reduce its energy usage’. Cllr Lonergan said: “It’s all about trying to tackle climate change and keep down our emissions. “Whatever ideas are put forward we’ll look into them. “For example solar panels on top of the Guildhall. We could replace the council’s vehicles with electric ones.”
