WORK looks set to start on the much-anticipated £11.65m Harwell bypass following 20 years of campaigning by residents. The new link road, which is aimed at reducing traffic by 250 trips per hour, will be built on land between the B4493 and the A417 to the east of Harwell and south-west of Didcot, running alongside the A34. No precise date has been set yet for the work to begin, but

By George Welch Oxfordshire County Council is hoping it will be as early as September. County councillor for Harwell and Hendreds Stewart Lilly said: “I can say that plans are afoot now for the Harwell bypass which has been awaited for some 20 years. “I can now say that hopefully work will be starting in the next
two or three months.” With the preferred contractors for the work chosen, Mr Lilly hopes Harwell will have its new bypass in place by autumn 2017. Planning permission for the bypass was granted in April last year, but the project was then held up by land ownership issues. The work is designed to increase the capacity of the VË Í ÖjÄË Ë¬?~jËÏ
