By Adam Flinn and football pitch, we will also be repairing the tennis courts and the boundary wall and footpaths. “We are extremely proud of Victoria Park and with the new summer flowerbeds, wheelchair swing, splash park and new benches, it is looking fantastic. “We are very much looking forward to continuing improvements in the coming months.” Work on the bowling green will start on August 17 with the removal of the Leylandii trees as these are causing further damage, and is expected to take around nine days. Extensive repairs to the green will follow, which will see it completely resurfaced ahead of the start of the season next April. Fences to allow visitors to see into the bowling greens will also be installed. Spoil from the greens will then be used to fi ll other areas of subsidence around the park, including the football pitch. VË Í ÖjÄË Ë¬?~jËÏ

REPAIRS to Newbury’s Victoria Park are set to get underway next week, six years after evidence of damage caused by subsidence was first spotted. Cracks started to appear in the park in 2010, which was subsequently blamed on construction work taking place at the nearby Parkway shopping centre when it was being built. The bowls club, football pitch and tennis courts were particularly affected, and this led to a lengthy battle for Newbury Town Council to get compensation from Parkway developer Costain. A £600,000 settlement was agreed last November, with the money from that set to be used for the repairs. Town council leader Dave Goff said: “This is a very exciting time for the council. “At last we can carry out the repairs needed in the park and all of these works should be completed by next summer. “The works will be funded entirely from the legal settlement we secured last year and as well as the bowling green
