Plan to cut greenhouse gases to be considered by authority WEST Oxfordshire councillors are to discuss a scheme tomorrow that could see the council commit to cutting greenhouse gases and food waste by 20 per cent over the next nine years. The Courtauld Commitment 2025 is a voluntary agreement launched in March by Banburybased company Waste and Resource Action Programme (WRAP). It sets out targets for local authorities to reduce environmental impacts in their areas.
By Alex Ballinger West Oxfordshire District Council’s environmental scrutiny committee is set to debate the plans during a meeting tomorrow ahead of a fi nal decision by the council’s cabinet at a later date. The council’s cabinet member for environment, Richard Langridge, said: “Reducing greenhouse gases is an ongoing priority for us and I am pleased that combined with Oxford City
and all the other district councils, Oxfordshire is now the top county in England for recycling. “We are looking to make further improvements as we review our collection services.” The Courtauld Commitment encourages local councils to reduce waste and to maximise recycling and composting.
