Blue skies ahead for our Charity of the Year

Abingdon borders may have to move to swallow housing LARGE scale housing developments on the outskirts of Abingdon could lead to the boundaries of the town being redrawn in the coming years, according to town bosses. Councillors fear the 158-home Drayton Road development, being built on the southern edge of the town could be the fi rst step towards Abingdon merging with Drayton village and eventually Didcot as the two towns grow. Leader of Abingdon Town Council Sandy Lovatt also said he wants to push to extend the northern boundary of the town to secure money from a future 900-home development planned for off Twelve Acre Drive and Dunmore Road. But Cllr Lovatt added he is concerned about a merger with Didcot. He said: “Abingdon is pretty much up to its border limits. “I’m more worried about Drayton, Milton and Didcot because of the developments. “It’s mainly about identity and

We don’t want to be subsumed by something else.” Work on the controversial Drayton Road development started last year after a long battle between developers and residents that started in 2012. Abingdon town councillor Mike Badcock strongly opposed the development and also said he is concerned about Abingdon growing into Drayton. He said: “It’s within the old boundary of the town but its getting closer and closer to Drayton all the time. “I hope we maintain our border between the village and the town. “If we don’t it will never be the same again.” Plans are also in the works to build up to 900 homes on Green Belt land in north Abingdon after VË Í ÖjÄË Ë¬?~jËÏ
