New Member Application Process
MEMBERSHIP DEPARTMENT
Michelle Scanzano
For anyone that is interested in sponsoring a new Member, please be sure to follow the steps for submitting new applications. All documentation is available on our website and should be emailed together to Michelle Scanzano (mscanzano@tavistockcc.com) upon completion. Here’s an overview of the process for welcoming new Members to our Club.
Candidates complete the Proposal for Membership Application Form. The application is filled out in its entirety and signed by both the candidate and primary sponsor.
Each candidate will need a primary sponsor and four secondary sponsors, all of whom are current TCC primary Members. Candidates will obtain letters of recommendation from their primary sponsor and four seconders. All five sponsors will also need to complete the Sponsor/Seconder Form.
It is the responsibility of the primary sponsor to collect the application and the aforementioned letters and forms. Only then should the completed application packet be submitted to the Club’s Membership Director’s attention.
The application packet may be scanned and emailed to the Membership Director or mailed to the Club or dropped off by the primary sponsor. Applicants and sponsors should not submit their parts piecemeal – everything should be collected by the primary sponsor and submitted together by the primary sponsor.
Tavistock Country Club performs a credit and background check on all new applicants. Upon receiving the completed application packet (Application Form and five sponsor letters and five Sponsor/Seconder Forms), the candidate will be provided a secure link to complete
the screening. Once the screening has been processed (usually within 72 hours) the candidate will be notified if they will be moving forward in the application process.
The Membership Chair will assign each applicant to a Member of the Committee, who will be responsible for vetting the application and candidate. The vetting process will include a brief meeting or conversation between the candidate and the assigned Committee member. Also, the Committee Member will speak with each sponsor to ensure their level of familiarity with the candidate is sufficient to justify the recommendation they have provided. The assigned Committee Member will provide a report of his/her findings to the entire Membership Committee at the next scheduled meeting.
Once the Committee has approved a candidate to continue with the application process, and only after the Membership Director has determined that there is a Membership opening for the candidate, the candidate will be posted to the general membership for at least 30-days in the Tavistock Newsletter. Upon no objection from the general membership the candidate will be interviewed by the entire Committee.
Upon formal approval by the Membership Committee, the candidate’s application is forwarded to the Board of Governors for final approval at their next scheduled meeting.
The Club will be in communication with the primary sponsor and candidate along the entire process and look forward to assisting new Members in making Tavistock Country Club their home away from home. As part of acclimating new Members and their spouses to the Club, the Membership Director will schedule a lunch orientation with them. This is a time for the new Members to ask questions, get to know the TCC management, staff members and learn the inand-outs of the Club.
Meet Sean Leonard
Where and when did you start playing golf?
I started playing golf at Medford Village CC at the age of 10.
How long have you been at Tavistock and who was your sponsor when coming into the Club?
I became a member at Tavistock in 2003. I was the recipient of a Presidents Pick for either my golf abilities or good looks, I am not totally sure!
Most memorable playing moment at TCC?
I have had many, but I would say that winning the 2007 Club Championship with my parents, wife and children and grandmother and grandfather all watching. It was a very good match.
What is your favorite hole at TCC and why?
The best-looking hole is 6 in my opinion. My favorite hole is 10 because I birdie it more than any other hole!
If we put a “Sean Leonard” sandwich at the halfway house, what is it?
I am good with Gabby’s pork roll and cheese!
What is your go to meal at TCC?
The pork chop.
Who would be on your bucket list foursome at TCC?
Bob Marley, Bruce Lee and the Dalai Lama.
When you aren’t enjoying TCC what else are you doing?
I am at the gym or the gun club.
Mr. Reliable, what club has this name in your bag? My Hybrid.
Anything odd or special that you keep in your golf bag?
I have a few good luck charms in my bag but they’re for me to know.

The Easter Brunch and Egg Hunt.

Festive Holiday Beverage
HONEY’S PUNCH
Michelle Scianni, Communications Coordinator
This holiday punch recipe is a must have for the upcoming season! This is my go-to party punch recipe that remains a family-favorite. A tradition my nephew and I started years ago. It only takes a few minutes to make and creates a sweet and tangy flavor with a pop of fizziness.
This recipe is so popular and requested each year because it has great flavor and serves as a festive centerpiece. This punch recipe is perfect for adults and kid-friendly! (Want a spiked punch? Add 2/3 cup of rum or vodka to this punch.)
Step 1: Squeeze the container of frozen lemonade into a large drink dispenser or punch bowl.
Step 2: Add the cranberry juice cocktail and pineapple juice. Gently stir to combine. Add lemonlime soda just prior to serving. Add plenty of ice or an ice ring.
1 (64 -ounce) container of cranberry juice
1 (14 ounce) container of pineapple juice
1 (14 ounce) frozen lemonade
1 can of lemon-lime soda or ginger ale
Add fresh or frozen cranberries for a pop of color for a garnish if you wish.
Step 1: Pour a little water into the bottom of a Bundt or fluted tube cake pan. Add slices of orange slices, lime slices, and cranberries. Freeze until set.
If you want some froth simply add a scoop of orange sherbet to each glass before you pour the holiday punch over it,
Step 2: Working in layers, continue to add water a little at a time and layers of fruit until the pan is full. Place back in the freezer with each layer added.
Step 3: Let the ice ring freeze for several hours or overnight to fully set.
Step 4: Remove from the pan– Invert the pan and run hot water on the exterior of the pan to easily remove the ice ring. Set it on a sheet pan and keep in the freezer until you are ready to use.
Cheers to you all!
As a kid, this was a time of anticipation, looking forward to crowding our house with seasonal decorations, from Putz houses and Shiny Brite ornaments to the miniature train village- not under the tree, but on a huge platform that took up half the rec-room. Okay, I’m dating myself to the middle of the last century, but heck, I’m retired- it goes with the territory. While my brothers and Dad handled the trains and lights, my sister, Cindy, and I covered every flat surface with natural greenery. Dad was able to bring home from his work cut evergreens and holly, pinecones and a few poinsettias, so we went to town. Observing all this was our dog, Ollie, a loving energetic spaniel mix. Fortunately, he was not a curious fellow and did not sample any of this flora, which leads me to the point of my message: live holiday plants and pet safety.
those trees may have pesticide residue or preservative sprays to keep them hydrated, and the water in the tree bowl can contain fertilizer, mold and/or bacteria that can make them sick. The needles also can prick tender noses and paws.
Some of the symptoms of ingesting toxic plants are stomach upset, vomiting, drooling, diarrhea, listlessness, lack of appetite, and occasionally, more severely, seizures and high blood pressure. These symptoms vary with the type of plant and how much is ingested, from mild discomfort to more severe reactions.
While you are enjoying your holidays, please don’t forget to take precautions to safeguard your pets from injury or accidental ingestion of introduced holiday greenery. While dogs and cats are not big grazers and generally have a sense of what and what not to eat, they are omnivores- eating or tasting almost anything, and I’m sure there are quite a few stories to be told! A little knowledge of the plants for them to avoid can help make your holidays more stress free. If you can, just keep them out of reach and clean up any leaves, berries or flowers that drop, or just keep them out of the house altogether. Here are some of the most common holiday plants that can be toxic: Mistletoe, Holly, Hellebores, lilies (especially to cats), Peace Lilies, Amaryllis, English Ivy, Boxwood, Jerusalem Cherry, and Yew. While the Christmas tree conifers aren’t terribly toxic, if enough is ingested, they can cause digestive distress. Also, keep in mind that
This list is not exhaustive, and just includes common holiday plants but if you want to investigate further you can scan this QR code to visit the ASPCA’s database of poisonous plants for pets:
Cact us
On the brighter side, there are some plants that are lovely and not toxic to pets: Christmas cactus, Christmas orchid, African Violet, Money Plant, Moth Orchid, Sempervivum, Norfolk Island Pine and Spider Plants. I actually did have a Norfolk Island Pine in my tiny apartment many, many years ago, and it was adorable in a Charlie Brownish kind of way. It became a cherished house plant afterwards.
And yes, Ollie did get a stocking full of gifts.
Wishing you and your pets the best of health and happiness this holiday season!
