Closing Day
WOMEN’S 18 HOLE GROUP Richelle Maestro
The Women’s 18 Hole Golf League completed its 2022 season with a Closing Day Tournament and celebration. The beautiful fall day created the perfect backdrop for the afternoon shotgun start. The tournament format was two better balls of foursome and there were numerous on-course contests. The celebration continued after golf in the ladies locker room and outdoor patio with food stations and passed hors d’oeuvres. It was a fabulous way to celebrate friendships and the tournament winners.
Thanks to the event planners, Alison Pelose and Jessica Schultz, for all their hard work planning such a wonderful season finale. Thanks also to the golf shop staff; the grounds crew; and the banquet, kitchen, and wait staffs, and to our locker room attendant, Lucy, for all their hard work, not only on this closing day but throughout the season.
Congratulations to the closing day winners!

How long have you worked at TCC?
I first walked through the doors at Tavistock in 2005. I had just turned sixteen years old. Imagine my disappointment when my mom handed me a job application instead of a carefully created invitation to the lavish sweet 16 party I had really hoped for. (Yes, I’ve since forgave my mother and even thanked her for encouraging me to work here.) I left TCC in 2008 to explore other opportunities, then returned in 2019. Sometimes I walk through the doors into the dining room from the clock in area and I am transported back 17 years to my first days at Tavistock. I am afraid to lose those moments of nostalgia once the renovations begin but am also excited to see things grow and change just the way I have since those first days.
What is your current position?
My current position is a Banquet Manager. I started this position at the end of the summer of 2021. My first position ever at Tavistock was as a busser. I worked alongside my brother Phillip, who was also a busser. Once I turned eighteen, I began serving both banquets and a la carte dining. When I returned in 2019, I returned to serving (banquets/ catering/a la carte) and food running. When I saw the posting for the banquets position, I decided to go for it. I enjoyed working here but was always hoping for the opportunity to really work with and expand my skill sets, so it was perfect!
What
is your
favorite part about working at TCC?
One phrase I have always lived by was “life is too hard and too good to do alone.” I value community and believe that surrounding yourself with the right people will enhance your best moments, and help you cope through the worst. Working as one of TCC Banquet Managers, I get to coordinate gatherings for all different groups of people and for many types of occasions all day long. I love to stop in and share the excitement of a bride and groom on their wedding day. My heart simultaneously breaks for and is filled with love seeing family’s gather and remember after a loved one’s memorial service. The fundraising dinners and golf tournaments make me feel hopeful for our society and motivate me to want to give. Birthdays, baby showers, and reunions have a lot of fun and laughter going on, which are two of life’s greatest releases and remedies.
What is your proudest moment while working at TCC?
This one time in 2017, when I was a busser, I managed to fit 6 whole tables worth of dishes on one cart to take back to the kitchen without one single thing broken! My brother had held the previous record of 5 tables. But more recently my proudest moment is when a person takes the time to tell me that their event exceeded their expectations. Banquet events take a lot of coordination across multiple areas here at Tavistock. So many of our teams must work together to ensure the event is what the host envisioned, and I am only a piece of that puzzle. I appreciate my co-workers so much for all they do to assist me in creating a successful event. From the servers and bartenders on the floor, to the chefs and utility people in the kitchen, to the housemen, matrons, and laundry staff who make this place beautiful and fit the needs of each event. To the Managers who coordinate staff and assist with day of needs, to Cathy Drew, my Banquet Manager partner, and the Accounting Department who process the paperwork; my heart is so full of gratitude and I am proud to be part of an amazing team.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
In 2017, I completed an Associate Degree in Human Services from Horry-Georgetown Technical College located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. From there, I went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from
TAVISTOCK COUNTRY CLUB IS DEDICATED TO CREATING A FIRST - 16 Employee Spotlight
THE HUMAN RESOURCE COMMITTEE
Limestone University with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work in 2019. My hopes were to graduate and go on to work in a position that would allow me to facilitate connection between people and empower and support fellow individuals through life’s best and worst times. Through my schooling, I learned some of the most effective, intentional, compassionate, and a whole person approaches to doing so.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I don’t know if I would consider it hidden since it literally involves standing in front of rooms full of people, but I would consider myself a decent public speaker. I’ve been interviewed live and in studio on multiple news stations, presented a grant proposal in front of Myrtle Beach City Council, lead a presentation at a national conference on transportation in Greenville, South Carolina, and stood in front of numerous classrooms and community groups to raise awareness and ask for support of a small non-profit I worked for. To me, public speaking is exhilarating and challenging. It’s all about knowing your material, your confidence, and controlling your thoughts and nerves.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Most people who know me would tell you, I try to do just about everything and anything. Cathy Drew recently called me a “renaissance woman” and I took it as such a compliment. I am recently taking a “flower
design class” at Camden County College for fun, while also trying to fill my time with other little craft projects at home. I could easily go out and share a meal and drinks with loved ones every night of the week. I also love being outside and even better if I have a good book to read in one hand, and a cold drink in the other!
Anything about your family that you would like to share?
I am a 3rd generation Tavistock employee. My grandmother, Laura Trout, worked as the Ladies’ Locker Room Attendant, my mother, Teresa Schultz, worked as a server and food runner, and then now here I am! I’ve also had brothers, aunts, and cousins who have been employed here as well. My family is very large. My mother is one of 9 and my dad is one of 3, which brings me to 24 first cousins. (Not to mention all the kids my cousins now have!) It’s chaos, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What has kept you at TCC so long?
I’ve certainly bonded with numerous members of Tavistock and my coworkers, so that is a large percentage of why I keep coming back. It’s also the respect, fairness, and compassion I’ve been shown by others, especially management, despite not feeling worthy at times. Being treated as a valuable & unique individual with a range of skills, and emotions here at TCC has helped me flourish in life.
