Our first Cigar Dinner of 2024 was held on Wednesday, June 19th. It was a sold-out event! Guests were entertained with a cigar roller and a sit-down dinner on the 11th tee box. It was a little warm and humid but as members and guests puffed on their cigars the smoke trailed upwards creating an art piece in the sky. The smell of cigar smoke still danced around as the sun went down. Chef Kelly and staff prepared a delicious smoked NY sirloin dinner with garlic herb fingerlings and grilled asparagus with a wine selection that was paired just right! To top off the evening dessert was a chocolate lava cake prepared by Chef Vita with vanilla ice cream. It was a great way to cool down the night. The next Cigar Dinner will be on Wednesday, September 18th. Keep an eye on Tavizine for a SAVE THE DATE for when registration will be open.
To ensure efficient and smooth operations, we kindly remind all members and guests that parking in valet-designated spots is strictly prohibited unless using valet services. Please use the general parking areas if you are not utilizing valet services. This policy helps maintain order and allows our valet staff to serve you better.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Summer’s here and there are plenty of events at the Club to enjoy with your family and friends.
On Saturday, July 13th at 4:00 PM come on out for the Chip & Sip 9-hole golf tournament. There will be different appetizers and wine at each tee box of this members only event. This social event is perfect for mixed doubles. This event is limited to 36 2-person teams so be sure to register on ForeTees. $85++ per person.
The following Friday, July 19th will feature our Paradise Island Luau. This adult only event (21 and older) will feature a Hawaiian themed buffet dinner with live music, authentic in-person Polynesian dancers who will entertain with hula dancing and a fire knife presentation. $110 per person. Price includes a complimentary Mai Tai. You can register online or call. This will be a popular event for sure.
If you can’t make July’s Chip & Sip, there will be another one held on Saturday, August 17th at 4:00 PM. A perfect event to enjoy as we approach the end of the summer. You can register on ForeTees or call the Golf Shop.
Celebrate National Dog Day and Man and Woman’s Best Friend with
Pups on the Patio on Tuesday, August 27th here at the Club. Chef Kelly will have a special a la carte menu for you and your pup(s). All registered families in attendance will be entered into a chance to win a gift basket. This year the AWA (Animal Welfare Association) will be joining us. It’s a great opportunity to get some information about their mission. Be sure to make a reservation, starts at 5:00 PM.
And before you know it the weather will be getting cooler, and the children will be returning to school. What better way to celebrate than with the annual Tavistock Brewfest! SAVE THE DATE for this increasingly popular event that will take place under the tent on Friday, September 6th. There will be at least 10 breweries again this year including Kings Road, Double Nickel, Bonesaw, Gusto, Bucket Brigade and Anglesea Aleworks. There will also be craft ciders from Armageddon Brewing this year. If you have attended this event in the past then you know the bratwursts, sausage, German potato salad and other items prepared by Chef Kelly are delicious. Get a group together and join in the fun!
Have a safe and relaxing rest of the Summer and see you at the Club!

One of the wedge options for golfers today is a 60-degree wedge. But not everyone has one. Is it needed? I tell golfers who have them to keep them in their bag. But the ones that don’t have one, I teach them how to take their 56-degree wedge and turn it into a 60-degree. Scan the QR code below to view my latest video. In it, I’ll show you the keys to turn your sand-wedge into a lob-wedge.
Guests limited 5 rounds
SOA limited to 10 rounds
NRG limited to 10 rounds
SOG limited to 5 rounds
JA may play after 3 pm each day

Meet Michael “Mike” Woolley
Where and when did you start playing golf? I started playing golf with my father, we played occasionally but picked it up as I got older. The first time I played golf I was around 13 at Wanamassa Country Club.
How long have you been at Tavistock and who was your sponsor when coming into the Club?
I joined in 1976 and my sponsor was Darryl Copeland. It was always something that I wanted to do in life, join a country club.
Most memorable playing moment at TCC?
I’ve been lucky enough to have two holes in one. I have one on 13th and 16th here at Tavistock. They were about four years apart and my first one didn’t come until I was in my 70s.
What is your favorite hole at TCC and why?
I enjoy all of them, but I would say 15 back in the old days. No houses and there was more trouble there to make it a difficult hole.
What is your go to meal at TCC? I would go with a cheesesteak.
If we put a “Woolley Special” sandwich at the halfway house, what would it be?
Probably a hamburger, lets make it easy.
Favorite event or tradition at TCC?
When I was playing golf, I really enjoyed opening day and the member guest. They made for great weekends. So many social events I could choose from but one that sticks out over the years is Easter brunch.
One thing you could add or change if you had rule for the day at TCC?
I honestly wouldn’t change anything. I feel like the Club has evolved over the years in a great way. It’s much more family oriented and Tavistock is in a great place.
Who would be on your bucket list golf group at TCC?
My four would be from my time at Tavistock. First would be Jim Foran or Fran he saved Tavistock when the Club was having tough times financially. He came here every day for two years after he retired from his job and worked out the issues back in the 80s. Dave Wilson would be a second. Tavistock was a true man’s Club when I first started, there was little to no entertainment for all at the Club. Dave individually changed the Club and its events into what they are today. Bob Crieghton would be in the group as well. He was responsible for building all the barns and buildings on the course. I would round it out with Gene DiMedio as he helped this Club stay on an even keel for a long time.
When you aren’t enjoying TCC what else are you doing?
Right now at my age, I am enjoying my kids and grandkids. I have 13 grandkids and they live around here so I am lucky enough to enjoy them.
What do you like most about Tavistock?
The majority of people that I have met at Tavistock are good people. Nobody wears their hat above everyone else. No matter a person’s status, everyone is here to enjoy what the Club has to offer.
HAVE YOU SEEN THE GARDEN LATELY?
Michelle Scianni, Communications Department
Raised bed gardens provide many benefits. The most common benefit of having a raised bed is the aesthetic appeal. Stop by the patio to see TCC’s beautiful, raised bed gardens. Some other common raised bed benefits are soil control, healthier harvests, prolific produce, water control, pest protection and season extension. Chef and staff are on the cutting edge and have planted the following vegetables and herbs.
Habanero peppers
Ghost peppers
Jalapenos
Sun gold tomatoes
Beefsteak tomatoes
Mr. stripey tomatoes
Purple Cherokee tomatoes
Lemon tomatoes
Basil Parsley Thyme
Rosemary Oregano
These fresh picks will be used in dishes all summer long. We look forward to seeing you at the Club!

Do you have a scenic photo taken on the Club grounds that you would like to share? If so, email Michelle Scianni at mscianni@tavistockcc.com. We may publish it in a future Newsletter.
The
between the 6th and 14th hole looking back towards the 6th tee.
What do you like about your current position?
I like that I get to be creative! When I’m at my desk, I just let the creative juices flow and get to make some cool content for the Club. One minute I’m assembling the newsletter and the next I’m flying a drone over the course. No two days are alike! I also enjoy working collaboratively alongside my coworkers and the Members of the Committees so we can do the best job possible.
Where did you work prior to Tavistock?
I worked at PetSmart for seven and a half years, first as a cashier and most recently as a Merchandising and Inventory Manager.
What are some things you like to do when you’re not working?
I really love being in nature! Camping, hiking, and canoeing are some of my favorites. I dedicate a lot of my time outside of work volunteering with Boy Scout Troop 251 and Cub Scout Pack 251 based out of Winslow. Aside from that, I like spending time with family and friends, cooking, and just relaxing at home.
Do you have any pets?
Not that I currently live with, but I have two cats, Hoda and Hudson, that still live with my parents!
What was your most memorable vacation?
My family and I went to California for the first time in 2018 and it was an awesome experience! We met up with a family friend and got a full tour of Southern California and the Hollywood Hills from an insider. We also got to try In-and-Out Burger for the first time and got to see a Dodger’s game.
Do you collect anything?
Oddly enough, I have a decent number of knick knacks in my house that are all peacock themed.
Do you like roller coasters?
I used to hate them but only in the last few years have I come to love them. Nitro and Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure are still the best!
Do you have a favorite Holiday Tradition?
Around New Year’s every year, my brother and I go on a road trip to Glen Burnie, Maryland to get a hot dog from a local spot called Ann’s Dari-Crème. It was one of my grandfather’s favorite spots, so we continue the tradition in his honor. It used to be a day trip but has evolved into a little weekend vacation in Maryland!
Here’s a look ahead at all the events coming soon to TCC! Please hold all reservations for the following Save the Dates until a formal advertisement is published.

If you find yourself coming to the Club on the spur of the moment, a quick call to our Dining Room team will let you know what is going on at the Club and that you plan to join us, so we can service you better!
So next time you plan on dining at the Club, please reserve your table in advance and as always, we look forward to serving you, your families, and friends!
