This project encompasses the fundamental human relationship with nature. A microcosm that utilizes nature-inspired elements to celebrate well-designed everyday interactions. This goal is achieved by applying characteristics to the space’s materials, morphology, color, composition, and tactility. The application of these designs will elicit a sense of comfort and serenity. Nature will recontextualise simple experiences like sitting or showering because the space’s characteristics work as an ensemble to display nature as the focal point in a bold yet simple manner.

The bathroom utilizes curved and spanning morphologies to divide and create space. The prominent materiality of the dynamic marble strip that spans from the entrance to the shower acts as a natural guide. The bathroom is accessible, and heights, paths, space, functions, interactions, and turnaround space influenced elderly and wheelchair-friendly dimensions. The shower is large (5’ x 5’) and open, with a bench inside to sit, and the toilet has grab bars with enough space for one to maneuver onto the toilet.
The sizes and proportions of the main space are also heavily influenced by elderly and wheelchair-friendly dimensions. The universal design in the main living space is simple and open, removing the challenge of obstacles. Heights of shelves, seating, and countertops are at appropriate and accessible heights. The morphology of partitions and shelves is inspired by characteristics extracted from the inspiration process. The beams (also prevalent in the bedroom) that frame the entertainment space is inspired by the bamboo scaffolding techniques used in Hong Kong.

Concept
Amidst dramatic change, people in the workplace are struggling, and employee engagement is steadily declining after the pandemic. In the Next Project, I aim to address the post-pandemic workspace issues through multi-cultural design. Drawing from rich cultural architectural and design philosophies that will inform the designed space’s environment and how it functions while catering to the multifaced needs of NEXT. Utilizing a blend of traditional and modern architectural philosophies will help elevate the emerging hybrid workspace trends. By citing historical architectural and design movements, examining post-war design movements, traditional gathering architecture, and dynamic and temporary architecture can deepen our understanding of creating successful spaces by relying on an abundance of previous knowledge.
Recognize Exclusion, Understand Barriers
Explore the barriers + aspirations of traditionally excluded communities through collaboration and partnership.
Recognize that spatial needs vary, and generate ideas that consider the full range of human difference
Integrate a diverse group of people into the design process. Embrace different perspectives and be intentional to include various ages, cultures, disabilities, races, gender, level of education, neurodiversity, etc.
Leverage feedback to impact the outcome. Commit to observe, test, iterate, and evolve.
Strive for equity and equitable experiences, and reimagine “one size fits all” solutions. Design for the individual, while exploring how it scales to address many needs.

The Northside Future Project aims to create a modern, adaptable workshop and warehouse that serves the local immigrant community. By using raw industrial materials, we will design dynamic geometric forms that flow and undulate, creating a space that feels both sheltered and open. The varying volumes of the space will offer a fluid experience as visitors move through it, guided by a rhythm of geometric patterns, both symmetrical and asymmetrical. The materials chosen will naturally age and weather over time, not as a sign of decay, but as a symbol of resilience—reflecting the strength and stories of the people who inhabit the space.
Colors that are deep, earthy and rich will provide a strong foundation to the training center and will further encourage students to feel supported and grounded in their education.
