art exhibit with other handpicked female artists around the state of Florida. “I’m not a stranger to the arts,” explains Claffy. “I was considered a child prodigy in musical performance, so I left home at 15 to attend school at the University of North Carolina in Winston Salem. Unfortunately for music, I was equally good with patterns and numbers so left the arts for 30 years of commercial banking.”
A self-taught artist, Becky Claffy never forecasted her love and passion for painting. After a 30-year career in banking, she completed her first oil and acrylic painting in February 2017. Since then, her skill and popularity have increased exponentially.
It appears that the visual arts have ignited Claffy’s soul and it will be interesting to see how it continues to grow. Claffy describes how she quickly found her unique style of painting and produces her best work: “When you look up at the sky and suddenly find a constellation, you are using the same kind of process I use to create my best paintings. Like the constellations are already in the sky, the images I paint are already in the canvas. As an artist, I have a passion for detailing the images so that all can see them like I do.” R
In June 2018, Claffy was invited to be the sole emerging artist exhibitor for the City of Tavares’ in their ongoing exhibit located in Central Florida. Approximately 40 works, all created during her first year of painting, were displayed. Subsequently, she has been invited to display paintings at the upcoming juried “Womanmade”

Our youngest residents and visitors love the Seaplane Splash Pad, the beautiful park, and many activities at our library and art museum! If you like the night life, we have numerous restaurants and bars just waiting to entertain you with live music, game nights and plenty of great food and cold beverages. Welcome to Tavares, America’s Seaplane City With a FAA certified virtual 3,000 foot runway for seaplane landings and takeoffs, a central Florida location, and a vibrant Entertainment District. Tavares provides an ideal location for seaplane pilots to visit. Over 12,000 take offs and landings from the Tavares Seaplane Base & Marina in its first five years of operation support this fact. Tavares offers non-ethanol aviation and marina fuel but is much more than a fuel stop over 20 restaurants and businesses are within walking distance of the seaplane base. In the spring of 2012, just across the street from the seaplane base, three boutique hotels opened. Jamie Beckett of General Aviation News stated, “Tavares is perfect for seaplane aficionados”. Tavares has served as the County Seat for Lake County, Florida, since 1888. The city’s historic downtown lies on the shores of beautiful Lake Dora, and still maintains its small town charm. Picturesque Wooton Park sits only one block from Main Street and offers families everything from picnic pavilions to boat ramps. Tavares is also home to the Dora Canal, known as the most beautiful mile of waterway in the world. A Vibrant Events Calendar There are some mainstay Tavares events that are as traditional as apple pie. For example, the patriotic Independence Day Celebration on July 4th includes a festival in Wooton Park, a FREE Kid’s Zone, parade down Main Street and spectacular fireworks over Lake Dora. November will feature the largest event the Tavares Chamber hosts – the Annual Taste of Tavares and Business Expo, featuring over 15 of the finest food vendors our community has to offer and lots of fun, live entertainment and visiting with your neighbors.
Bass fishing tournaments, Antique boat shows, classic race boats, kayaks and more make up just some of the different festivals and/or events held in Tavares on the edge of Lake Dora. Working in cooperation with the Jones Brothers Seaplane and our Seaplane base, the city is able to present numerous events such as the ever popular Planes, Trains, BBQ & Blues event and the Seaplane-A-Palooza.
