THE WHITE BIKE EXHIBITION A HUGE SUCCESS

Val Rokhar and the White Bike It was standing room only on Friday night, when over 110 people packed the Mechanics Institute in Tatura for the launch of Val Rokahr’s first solo exhibition, the White Bike. Val said that she was overwhelmed by the response to her first exhibition and the feedback from patrons. “I have been so humbled by the support I have received from the whole of the community. I wish to thank the Friends of Victory Hall and the many others who have worked tirelessly catering on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. Your hard work and assistance has been greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank the Tatura RSL for having their clubrooms open over the weekend and working collaboratively with me regarding my exhibition requirements. There are too many people to individually mention but to the many family and friends who supported me in the past few weeks thank you very much,” Val said.

Val’s first solo exhibition had a total of 53 watercolour pieces. The paintings were completed in the past 12 months in Cinque Terra in Italy, Burleigh Heads and various other locations throughout the state. The event was a fundraiser for Victory Hall with the raffle proceeds and entry price going to the Hall. Ian Grant, Secretary of Tatura Civic Halls Committee and Friends of Victory Hall was delighted with the weekend. “This is what Friends of Victory Hall is all about, a win win situation for everybody. Everyone has benefited from this vibrant art show held over a sunny weekend in Tatura. Our community-owned hall complex was buzzing over the whole weekend. Rotary exchange students were in one room, the Tatura Soccer Club were cooking spaghetti sauce in the commercial kitchen for an end of season dinner, the RSL was open for inspection and Val’s art exhibition was in the Mechanics

Institute. To see people supporting the hall is a wonderful testament to the community spirit in our town,” Ian said. President of the Tatura RSL, Robert Mathieson, opened the newly decorated clubrooms over the weekend and had a wonderful response from visitors to the exhibition who dropped in. A number of them made enquiries about their ancestral military history and the club also gained some new members. First prize in the raffle was a painting of the White Bike and was won by Mr Mal Watts. Second prize was won by Dorothy Heard from Numurkah and third prize was won by Sue Plant from Shepparton. The exhibition has been a huge success. Val Rokahr is available for commissions and can be contacted on 0419 503 941. - Photo by Kaye Watson
