TIFFANY TORRES LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO

introduction

FROM THE DIRT A SEED MUST GROW

A DIVE INTO THE STAGES OF PROGRESSION

My name is Tiffany.

I am a dancer, artist, and creator. Dance is where I am able to physically understand kinesthetics and somatics. Art is either where I begin my design process for projects or where I allow myself to create freely. I am an Irvine native where I have seen the cultivation of crops gear more towards the cultivation of communities through master plan development.

Growing up in the same city can lead to dull eyes and that is where Cal Poly Pomona brought color to my world through the study of Landscape Architecture. My hometown became this vast city of discoveries and realizations through the infrastructure, organization, and form. I have also been introduced to numerous positions of research and leadership at CPP.

With the help of two colleagues, I interviewed Cal Poly Pomona President Soraya M. Cooley, BrightView’s Pat Seatton, and students who were apart of the building of the Neutra Plaza. I was nominated to speak with two of my colleagues about to Neutra Plaza to the Cal Poly Pomona Philanthropic Board.

03 SOUTH CENTRAL FARM FROM THE DIRT A SEED MUST GROW

South LA has a heavy history of verbal redlining, aggressive policing, racial profiling, the I-10 being built through the heart of the city, and the 1965 Watts Riots + Civil Rights movement. My collage conveys the resiliency that the community itself has held in regards to their pride despite the gentrification.

There was an article I read in the LA Times where a family mentioned that despite their unfair treatment, they hope the future provides an improvement in the circulation of people, jobs and overall production. The photo of the girl taking a selfie represents that as it is an art piece titled “South Central Dreams.” This carries hope for what is yet to come to the site.

PROFILE

I am a fourth-year undergraduate student pursuing a B.S. in Landscape Architecture with a minor in Dance at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. My research is rooted in elevating the interpersonal experience in landscapes in relationship with the social, ecological, and technical systems found in communities around the country. My interests include how oppression and injustice manifests in architecture and public spaces by means of accessibility and quality. I am passionate about all people and living creatures being comfortable outdoors, living symbiotically. I am driven to apply my research to establish productive multi-use spaces that interlink surrounding assets to enhance the lives of community members.
