ABOUT ME
Hello,
My name is Tate Pruitt. Thank you for taking the time to view my portfoilo. I fell in love with design at the age of 12 when I discovered HGTV. I loved the the creative aspect behind Interior Design and the more I learned about it, the more I realized I wanted it to be my future job. For four years, I studied Interior Architecture and Design at the Academy of Art University. In that time, I became more familiar with softwares like Revit, Autodesk 3ds Max, AutoCad, and Adobe softwares during my studies. Over the course of my time at the Academy of Art, I had the experience of working firsthand with some of the best instructors and artists that have helped me develop skills to ensure a strong, successful future.
I have over two years of experience in the customer service field and ready to finally take the leap into the creative field. I’m constantly honing my skills and I’m open to anything and learn.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC HEADQUARTER
2-Story Headquater / San Francisco
The National Geographic Society started in Washington, D.C. in 1888 by a small group of travelers and their patrons in the late Victorian Age, a time when European and American explorers were finding a strong audience at home for tales of adventure and foreign cultures. Shortly after its own founding, the Society started a magazine of its own, which covered a wide variety of world cultures and natural resources, with a particular emphasis on maps and high quality photography. The National Geographic Society wishes to develop a mixed-use building that will house their West Coast office headquarters as well as a retail space for visitors, a public exhibit space for art/photography/educational exhibits, and a

CONCEPT STATEMENT
The National Geographic Society was founded on the exploration and education of nature and continues to be one of their top focus areas. By utilizing colors, patterns, textures, and materials that are reminiscent of the forest, it will transport visitors into nature. With the use of natural light and artificial light, it will add an extra depth to this experience. This design will be an engaging and educational experience for all ages who visit.
DESIGN NARRATIVE
The floor plan for Level 1 was designed for the best visitor experience and emmerision. The layout creates circular movement, making it easy for guests to follow. Each space is connected to their corresponding space, example: Cafe and Store. Considerations like best flow and natural light were also considered. The exhibit was strategically placed so it would have abundant lighting for displays. The exhibit also has an open floor plan to bring curious guests in. The store and cafe are set together for easy access for guests and to boost sales. Restrooms are conventionally placed near the exhibit.
The floor plan for level 2 was designed to provide a comfortable and convenient floor plan for the employees. Offices are clustered together and workspaces are in the center. Near the workspace is the kitchenette and copy room. The room has a circular floor plan for an easy path to follow. Near the elevator is the conference room and restrooms, both conveniently placed for clients. A majority of the offices are also near windows so they can have natural lighting and beautiful views.

CONCEPT STATEMENT
Mysa Senior Center is a place for independence, comfort, and joy. Here we strive for independence in our seniors so they feel in-powered and stay happy. The center is also maintenance-free so the seniors can focus on their health and happiness. There are activities around the clock and a spa and fitness center to keep their bodies at peak condition. To keep with the Swedish aesthetic, we will stay modern but keep it cozy and inviting. The design will use materials such as natural wood and stone to bring the love for nature into the building, while also utilizing subtle colors to keep it cozy.

Project 3
CONCEPT STATEMENT
Be transported to a warm, inviting atmosphere while experiencing some of the freshest food around. Fresh is a garden-to-table experience. Around here we like to keep things clean and simple. That’s why everything you eat is grown right from our rooftop garden. All finishes are kept simple and clean, natural woods and simple colors, and the plants around you are also alive and breathing, nothing fake here! With all of this, we hope to give you an atmosphere you enjoy.
DESIGN NARRATIVE
The design started with the idea to create an eco friendly environment for everyone to enjoy. Case studies were conducted to figure out what materials, demographic, and overall aesthetic we would need to go for. First, a community rooftop garden was created to offer easier access to fresh produce. Secondly, a demonstration kitchen will be implemented to offer education, agriculture, and cooking practices. The rooftop garden serves many purposes including improving community access to fresh produce.
In order to create an aesthetic that would appeal to the local community, a site study was conducted. This study showed that the Mission Bay neighborhood is an up and coming area with a lot of youthful energy. The design reflects modern and somewhat high end but still affordable. The farm to table concept is also felt throughout the design as well.
Sustainable principles have also been introduced. The design is abundant with plants and all fixtures and furniture are eco-friendly. LEDS are used in all of the light fixtures to help provide efficient lighting at night.
As you walk in, you’ll see the grand lobby. There you will find the custom ordered host stand with the light up sign that says “Fresh” and the accent wall in a lovely green color. There are also grand couches and chairs for your comfort while you wait for a table. In the center of the lobby is a gorgeous modern, crystal chandelier. To the side, you will find the executive office.
As you continue to be seated you will find the massive grand dining room. Here, the colors are kept neutral with pops of green. In the center of it all is the bar. The bar has wraparound seating and also has pops of green in it. The grand chandelier is also shown here. To the side of the dining room is where you will find the bathrooms, demonstration kitchen and the regular kitchen. At the back of the restaurant you will find the staff bathroom and staff lounge.
The principles and elements of designs can be seen throughout. Emphasis has been placed on plants and pops of green to bright up the place. Contrast can be seen between the greenery and white elements and even more with the pops of green. Rhythm has been created with furniture and light fixtures. Additional patterns can be seen in the use of plants, lighting and the bar. Balance can be seen in the seating arrangements in the dining room and entry. This balance was created to maximize the number of people that can be accommodated. Scale and proportion can be seen in the design such as the tables, chairs, counter, light fixtures, etc. Solid walls are broken up by windows throughout the building. All areas are unified with the use of plants and consistent colors (black, white, gray, green), materials (wood, glass, metal) and modern industrial style. Clean lines and simple consistent color play on the modern, contemporary feeling.
44 45
PROBLEM STATEMENTS
Form: As a whole, recycled resources will be used throughout the project. Any left over wood we can find, paint as we are using mainly white paint, and any flooring or light fixtures we can find.
Function: Each guest will have an opportunity to go through a class before they sit down for a meal. This will ensure each guest can see first hand the steps the restaurant takes to be sustainable.
Economy: With most materials being recycled, cost can be low. Furthermore, anything that can’t be recycled or thrifted will be bought at lowest cost possible.
Time: With all of this considered, this will put this restaurant in the right step towards sustainable farming and cooking and will leave a big impact in people’s lives. Taking these steps shouldn’t length the design process.
